I've never really done fanart before despite drawing other things in my spare time, but I guess this is my first foray into it.

I was bored at my internship today while waiting to get some tasks to do, so I randomly started doing some sketch studies into facial expressions and busts for Habsburg-pairing. I've been in love with that pairing lately (despite France and England being my OTP) and I want to do a few works of them (it's also an excuse to draw period clothing). So here's the first study of them I did today. Forgive my fail lol.

So I was working on my timeline notes such a looser and I ran into a problem with the Habsburgs. As a Habsburg fan, I see Roderich and Antonio being married during this time, but my problem is when the marriage ended. Historically, the union took place October 20 1496 when Philip married Joan and I see that as when Roderich and Antonio were married as well.

Option 1 for their divorce: 1521
This date is when the Habsburg line split into Austrian and Spanish lines, so it makes sense they would divorce here. The con on this date is that they were only married for 25 years, and they split before the Italian wars/getting the Italys. Although the Italian Wars (according to my wiki research) lasted from 1494-1559, the strip about the wars sets it in 1544 - Spain is noted as being a Habsburg (with a big Post-It on his back). While this is correct, the fact that it was specified makes me think they might have still been married at the time.

Option 2: 1700 and the War of Spanish Succession
This is when the last Spanish Habsburg died off, leaving Spain with on heir. Closest they could get was some relative in France. This translates (for me anyway) that Antonio and Roderich split (or Rod kicked his out b/c he lost his usefulness) and then Francis and Antonio were trying to marry and everyone said NO. I have read a good fic where this was the case, and the divorce/war were quite messy.

Has anything been addressed in the canon that I missed somewhere? What does your headcanon say? Or, if you dont believe they were married at all, explain why.
