Gradually, Fitz had stopped feeling relieved whenever the Doctor bounded into his personal space but did not kissed him, and had started feeling disappointed instead.

'The Taking of Planet 5' follows directly on from 'Blue Angel'... bits of 'Blue Angel' anyway. I'm not going to lie to you - even though this is a lot more straightforward than that, I still find it very confusing (don't worry - the straightforwardly good 'Frontier Worlds' is up next! I love that one). 'Taking of Planet 5' is a sequel to 'Image of the Fehndahl' - sort of. It still features Fitz and Compassion, we're still big into the Time War plot (it's important later) and so some old 'friends' from earlier in the series show up. There's some Lovecraft, and some paradox stuff. Both authors have done various other stuff in the Whoniverse, but I think this is the big thing of note.

OK, so there's SO MUCH to talk about about 'The Blue Angel', which is the next book after 'Interference' (which is weird, but nothing to 'The Blue Angel'). It's written by Jeremy Hoad (who seems largely to do other things) and Paul Magrs, who invented Iris Wildthyme and LOVES metafiction. That's very relevant to this book, which also includes a rather bizarre Star Trek parody, as well as some bits about the Doctor living a normal life, there are bits about Sarah Jane and some stuff about a magical book that seems to tell the Doctor's adventures. I find it a bit of a confusing mess, but it is interesting, and there is lots to talk about.

'Interference' Book 1 is the 26th EDA, and you should basically have read part 1 before you into this :) I personally liked it a lot better than book 1. It resolves loads of things, and several important game-changing things happen for everybody.

Sorry, missed another month. But now we're back and with one of the most interesting and controversial novels of the line.

'Interference Part 1' by Lawrence Miles

'Interference' Book 1 is the 25th EDA, and it's another one from Lawrence 'game changing ideas' Miles. So many things that will continue to be important to the EDA universe are established in this book (did someone say 'Time War'?), and things that have been important previously are picked up and given a new importance. This is also an important book as far as companions, since we meet Compassion for the first time in this book and I don't think it's too much of a spoiler to say (since it's everywhere) that we loose Sam. I think the change over is actually done quite well. And as for Fitz - well. A word of warning - forget everything you think you know about Compassion, otherwise you will be very confused about what she's doing here. 'Interference' also features the Third Doctor and Sarah Jane (last seen in 'Alien Bodies').

This month's featured book:
'Unnatural History' by Jon Blum and Kate Orman

(Just to remind you, the readlong featured book is one that has been widely approved of, and is the book you should read if you only have the time or inclination to read one EDA this month).

'Unnatural History' is the 23rd EDA, and the third by Orman and Blum (who you may remember from 'Vampire Science' and 'Seeing I'. It's the first one in a while that I've actually read already, and I really enjoyed it! primarily enjoyed it - the ending is a bit strange. We're back to San Francisco, home of the TVM and Sam Jones (both important) for a plot about time travel and missed opportunities and paradoxes - yes, Orman and Blum are here playing with Lawrence Miles's toys, but that's an ongoing, shared narrative for you. The book wraps up some interesting plot arcs, and also plays around with some meta-y thoughts about Sam as a character. Also, what I particularly like about it is that it gives Fitz a real chance to shine as a character, both on his own and in interaction with Sam. It's easy to read, fun, and quite important on a character and plot level. So, if you haven't been playing for a while, I recommend getting back on at this one.

Oh dear, henriettastreet, I'm sorry - I've been a terrible mod and totally failed to do readalong posts for many many months (it was 'The Taint' that did it. It was so so bad)(no, it wasn't 'The Taint'. Not really)(it was bad, though). But - as far as I'm concerned, they're still going on. So, please do keep playing if you want to keep playing. Or jump on if you want - this is actually quite a good time, as the last readalong book (back in the day) was Fitz's intro book (here'a a thing about Fitz and recent events you might enjoy).

'Revolution Man' by Paul Leonard

'Revolution Man' is the twenty fourth EDA, and it's by Paul Leonard, whom we have met before in such former discussions as 'Genocide' and 'Dreamstone Moon', both of which I recall not going down all that well. I'm pretty sure I have read this one, but I don't remember anything about it. But don't be put off! It is relatively highly regarded. It's set in the sixties and is about music, hippies, drugs and communism. It's also got a lot of weird stuff happening to Fitz, which is interesting (and the start of a repeated theme...)
