Does anyone have a good resource for maps? We have a very generic puzzle with a map of the US, but I'm looking for something a little more detailed. Puzzle, or otherwise.

I'd also love to find semi-detailed maps of each of the states so we can start to learn information about each individual state.

What is the best SAT study book out there?

About the Society for Creative Anachronism:
The SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. Our "Known World" consists of 19 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world. Members, dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events which may feature tournaments, arts exhibits, classes, workshops, dancing, feasts, and more.

We welcome children of all ages in our group, and we make a real effort to keep the kids interested and active. Can anyone recommend a good 7th grade science curriculum, or some good sites for making one up as we go? When I pulled Owen from school they were just starting on anatomy/physiology and dissection. I found a few helpful links for easing back into that but nothing that's really at the proper level for him. When I try to search for good science help, I'm finding a lot of religious based science texts and programs. I don't really want that, just basic, everyday evolution based 7th grade science/biology!

I am filling out the declaration of intent form and part of it wants the dates of my 12 month program. Since we are only doing the semester, can I cross that out and write in my dates, with a note that he has already finished X number of days in the school system, therefore we only need X days to complete the academic year? Or do I put a 12 month block from now and then just put a new start date if/when we make a new declaration for next school year in the fall? I'd rather be working on a traditional fall-spring schedule.

Also, has anyone used aleks.com for math with a middle schooler? Pros? Cons? I have a friend that is using it for her 4th grader and she loves it, but has no experience with higher grades.

***UPDATE*** The form should have the day you start homeschooling (or the day they stopped regular schooling) as the start date, and the end date can be whenever you want, so long as you can fit 180 days in there minus what they did in school already. Even though the line says "12 months of program" it does not have to be 12 months. I sent it in wrong first and the woman at the homeschool office for our school system called me, told me how to fix it, and sent me not only a new form, but a form with how many days he'd already completed AND an envelope to mail it back in! She was very nice and very helpful! So, if you are starting mid year- just put YOUR start date and make sure you can fit the remainder of your 180 days before the end date.

I just called the school principal and told him my son would not be returning for the rest of the year. AAAK! I've been thinking about homeschooling him (and his brother) for a while now and more worried that my abilities won't be good enough than their ability to do well at it. The school finally forced my hand (IMHO) so we are homeschoolers!

Owen is in 7th grade this year, and was in magnet/gifted classes so I have no idea where he really falls course level wise. I guess that will be our first few weeks, really finding out where he is and what he needs. He's already signed up to take the ACT in February.

I'm freaking a little. My son is thrilled, and my husband is excited (He's preparing his first C programming 'class' for tomorrow and has already started to help us plan for the planning and organizing as I am hopelessly disorganized!)

I think I need a little handholding, tell me I can do this and it will be ok!

Hello my name is Kat and I am seventeen and, um, still in the 10th grade.
I had been planning on dropping out and getting my GED, but I think that getting an online highschool diploma would be better considering I would really like to go to college eventually.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any online programs where I could get an authentic highschool diploma in a minimal amount of time?
I really want to get out of highschool and on with my life, but without a highschool diploma I doubt that will be very easy. So I would really appreciate any advice and help I could get.
