STARFLEET International Conference 2008
|
The nature of IC attendance is that, even if Denver gets a great crowd next year, most of the people who attend IC'08 in Ithaca will be comparing us to IC'06, this weekend's Philadelphia event. That's because most IC attendance is regional. (Not Regional, by STARFLEET Regions, but by parts of the country.) There are a handful of people who go to every IC, no matter where; a few dozen who go nearly every year; a bunch of people who go every few years; and then lots of people who go only if it's in reasonable driving distance.
The good news is that USS Accord had a record ten members at IC'06! We've thus got lots of people who have a good idea how an IC should work. :-)
The big lesson for us to take away from IC'06 is that the event doesn't have to be massively complicated; this one wasn't. (In fact, it was downright minimalist compared to some.) But it has to provide a little bit of lots of things, so everyone has a variety of things to do.
We'll have the advantage of lots more conference function space at our disposal than IC'06 had, but we should avoid the temptation to divide into too many small pieces in any given time slot. |
