"Drive You Home" is a song by Hong Kong singer and rapper Jackson Wang and American music production collective Internet Money. It was released as a standalone single on July 29, 2021, and samples the 1984 song "Drive" by The Cars.
Music video[]
The official music video was written and directed by Jackson Wang and Mamesjao. It tells the story of a man who mourns over his lover, who dies in a car accident. As a twist, the sequence of chronological events happens in reverse order. While Wang seems content, working an office job, he struggles with grief. At one point he's drunk and gets into a fight, bloody and bruised, and is thrown out of the establishment by the two bouncers. The ending shows the crash, where he wasn't watching the road and veers out of control.[1][2]
While Wang would usually explain the plot and backstory of his music videos, he stated, "But with this visual, 10 people can watch it and have 10 different feelings. I can't wait for the fans to interpret it." Fans have offered alternate storylines, where some suggested Wang was the one who actually died, and he was in the afterlife. At the beginning, the office looked "lifeless" and his date of birth was shown, presumed to be a significant detail. Another theory was they both had died, though he couldn't move on, wracked with guilt and was stuck in purgatory.[3]
In the behind-the-scenes video (currently privatized), it showed the video shoot dates from May 7-8, 2021.
