i haven't read LJ in about 2 weeks since I've been away and working my butt off, but i should have time to catch up this weekend. in the meantime, last night i dreamed that there was an earthquake that knocked over the Eiffel Tower. I think the Eiffel Tower was a stand-in for the Statue of Liberty, since it was in a body of water, and in New York. Then afterwards a gang of talking cats overthrew our government. they assumed dictatorial powers and it was very upsetting. i thought maybe the cats caused the earthquake so people would be afraid and be willing to let them take charge, though the cats officially denied it. they had very growly male voices and at least one of them wore glasses--i watched them on tv.
dream dictionary says: Earthquake - falling apart; conflict with your mother (is your mother in the dream?); a sudden change in your daily life (something is upsetting your life).
Water - Your unconscious (emotions, attitudes that are hidden that want to be made conscious); emotional energy. Water is a common symbol for fertility , growth, creative potential. Also a symbol for psychic energy {is the water free flowing or stagnant?}
cats - A feminine power symbol. Attributes are by image portrayed
earthquakes & volcanoes - Dealing with things out of your control. Unexpected problems or circumstances. May be stress related.
hmmm... |

| | jubilant | ] | Radovan Karadzic has been arrested in Serbia after nearly 13 years in hiding for the horrible war crimes he committed. sooner or later torturers and genocide-rs will be brought to justice--even if it takes 13 years. YEAH!
STATEMENT OF THE OFFICE OF THE PROSECUTOR ON THE ARREST OF RADOVAN KARADŽIĆ
Prosecutor Serge Brammertz welcomes the arrest today of Radovan Karadžić, the war-time President of Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was a fugitive from justice for almost 13 years – the first indictment against him was confirmed on 24 July 1995.
In relation to the arrest, Prosecutor Brammertz stated the following:
“I was informed by our colleagues in Belgrade about the successful operation which resulted in the arrest of Radovan Karadžić. On behalf of the Office of the Prosecutor, I would like to congratulate the Serbian authorities, especially the National Security Council, Serbia’s Action Team in charge of tracking fugitives and the Office of the War Crimes Prosecutor, on achieving this milestone in cooperation with the ICTY.
This is a very important day for the victims who have waited for this arrest for over a decade. It is also an important day for international justice because it clearly demonstrates that nobody is beyond the reach of the law and that sooner or later all fugitives will be brought to justice.”
The date of Radovan Karadžić’s transfer into the Tribunal’s custody will be determined in due course.
BACKGROUND
Radovan Karadžić, the former President of Republika Srpska, head of the Serbian Democratic Party and Supreme Commander of the Bosnian Serb Army (VRS), is charged with genocide, complicity in genocide, extermination, murder, wilful killing, persecutions, deportation, inhumane acts, and other crimes committed against Bosnian Muslim, Bosnian Croat and other non-Serb civilians in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the 1992-1995 war.
The indictment states that Radovan Karadžić, acting together with others, committed crimes with the purpose of securing control of areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina which had been proclaimed part of the “Serbian Republic” and significantly reducing its non-Serb population. In order to achieve this objective, Radovan Karadžić and others committed crimes to force non-Serbs to leave those areas, to expel those who were reluctant to leave, and to kill others.
Radovan Karadžić is charged with genocide for the murder of close to 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys in Srebrenica in 1995. The indictment alleges that Radovan Karadžić also committed genocide, persecutions and other crimes when forces under his command killed non-Serbs during and after attacks on towns throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, rounded up thousands of non-Serbs and transferred them to detention facilities set up by the Bosnian Serb authorities. The indictment alleges that forces under Radovan Karadžić’s command killed, tortured, mistreated, and sexually assaulted non-Serbs in these camps.
The indictment also charges Radovan Karadžić with responsibility for the shelling and sniping of civilians in Sarajevo which resulted in the killing and wounding of thousands, including many women and children.
The full text of the indictment against Radovan Karadžić is available on the ICTY website at the following address: http://www.un.org/icty/indictment/english/kar-ai000428e.htm |

Every Inch Of My Fun Last month, Hard Rock Park opened in Myrtle Beach, S.C. It's a rock 'n' roll theme park, complete with a Led Zeppelin roller coaster called the Ride, "whose hairpin turns are synchronized to Robert Plant's wails in 'Whole Lotta Love.'" I can't think of another ride that would inspire the question, "Daddy, what does 'I want to be your backdoor man' mean?" Sounds like a good time for people of all ages! You can read about it here.
As far as I'm concerned, the park creators have overlooked a few obvious attractions.
Tongue Twister: Visitors to the park ride on a giant replica of Gene Simmons' tongue. A voice emanating from the tongue keeps bragging about how long it is and how it never gets tired.
Smile! You're On Camera: Visitors make their own sex tape with a washed-up rocker of their choice, such as Motley Crue's Tommy Lee -- or, to be more accurate, a carny who looks like him. You get to keep the video as a keepsake. Pay extra, and the theme park will leak the video onto the Internet.
Steven + Stevie's Car Wash: Visitors drive go-karts through a car wash that uses only scarves. Steven Tyler's scarves do the washing; Stevie Nicks' scarves dry you off. Customers leave feeling refreshed and mostly clean. Adults only, due to the sensual nature of scarves.
All-Access Tour Bus: Park-goers get to feel what it's like to be on tour. For eight hours, you are trapped in a bus with a broken toilet. There are beer bottles everywhere, and the "fresh fruit" that someone decided to bring onto the bus has gone bad. Old episodes of Full House play on the DVD player while your lighting tech has sex in a bunk that's not his. When the Tour Bus ride is over, everyone showers in a bathroom in the club's backstage area. Whoops! We forgot the towels.
Roadie: The Ride: Visitors lug around an amp everywhere they go. Park employees yell, "Put it there. Wait, no, put it there instead." Fun for the whole family.
Meet Yr Idol: This attraction lets fans line up for hours to get a close-up glimpse of their idols. The park makes the line rainy and cold or 100 degrees and sunny. Then, when you finally reach the front of the line, impersonators of the biggest names in music give you the brush-off and mock you as you try to get an autograph, take their picture, or tell them how their music changed your life.
Bass Solo, The Musical: Sad, bitter, underappreciated bass players get to play you that one solo that never made it onto the album or into the live act. Performance Time: three hours.

grandma's going to live!! she was talking up a storm this morning and the doctors consulted with my parents and said that they want to put her back on food and fluids, and they think she is going to go back to the nursing home! holy crap! she's pulled back from the edge several times before but none of us thought it would happen this time. i am the happiest person on earth. she is back to being grandma-- complaining. she was yelling at the hospital staff accusing them of trying to starve her, saying she hadn't eaten in days, asking for her jewelry, complaining that she had no tv, ranting and raving.
and it also means that i don't have to cancel my business trip for tomorrow-- YEAH! i was really looking forward to this trip. |

i am occasionally amused by the questions posed in the "writer's block" on the LJ home page. i might start answering them here. today's Q was about if your life had a theme song. I used to start many of my radio shows with Taco Wagon by the Young Fresh Fellows, and i do love tacos. (it's fun to make tacos!)
and there's always two of my favorite songs: Sleater-Kinney's Step Aside Will you come knocking on my door? Pull me pick me off the floor I might need something to get me going Feel it one time IT ROLLS dig it When I feel worn out when I feel beaten Like a used up shoe or a cake half-eaten There’s only one way to keep on feeling Move it up one time IN TIME dig it This mama works till her back is sore But the baby’s fed and the tunes are pure So you’d better get your feet on the floor Move it up one time TO THE BEAT These times are troubled these times are rough There’s more to come but you can’t give up Why don’t you shake a tail for peace and love Move it up one time FOR LOVE JANET CARRIE CAN YOU FEEL IT Knife through the heart of our exploitation LADIES ONE TIME CAN YOU HEAR IT Disassemble our discrimination When violence rules the world outside And the headlines make me want to cry It’s not the time to just keep quiet Speak up one time TO THE BEAT
And one of the greatest songs ever written, S-K's Get Up!:
and when the body finally starts to let go let it all go at once not piece by piece but like a whole bucket of stars dumped into the universe whoooh! watch it go! good-bye small hands, good-bye small heart good-bye small head my soul is climbing tree trunks and swinging from every branch
they're calling on me (3x) uh oh (I am fine) they're calling on me (3x) uh oh (I'm not blind)
do you think I'm an animal? am I not? do you like fur (I'm all right) do you wanna come over are we captive only for a short time (I'm not blind) is there splendor, I'm not ashamed (the way you move, no waves were ever) desire shoots through me (quite as fluid) like birds singing
they're calling on me (3x) (I am fine) they're calling one me (3x) (I'm not blind)
I hit the mark! I target moon, I target sky, I target sun fall down on the world (3x) before it falls upon you
like beggars, like stars, like whores, us all (I'm all right) like beggars, like dogs like stars, us all (I'm not blind)
shoot straight for the heart (and when you were near) shoot straight for the heart (no sky was ever quite as clear)
like stars, so small like us when we fall (I am fine) like beggars, like whores like lovers oooh... get up! too far oooh... get up! too far
like stars above look down we're so small (I am soaring) like stars above look down on us all (and I'm not scared)
and the classic Sloan love song to a girl with glasses-- "Deeper than Beauty." I got to sing that onstage with them at my very first Sloan concert and it was an amazing experience. i shoudl say taht the whole time i was growing up i had enormous coke bottle glasses and was utterly convinced that i would never ever have a boyfriend because they were so horrid and guys hate glasses. it was wild when i discovered that some guys actually like them! plus it helped that gradually my glasses got smaller and smaller.
I suppose I've seen you three times now And I guess that I'm Wondering how You keep the boys at bay I have a feeling that they Are wondering too
I've seen you with your hair down at least five times And always wondered What makes a man commit crimes? But even I would sometimes If it weren't for the likes of you
And your glasses Your hideous glasses When you remove them I would rather skip my classes and be caught Than to entertain the thought That someday you'll just put them on again But I can make the best of it until then
Still I know you go deeper than your beauty You go well above and beyond The call of duty To your country and your school But I grew up too cool
I'm like the rest of them With our thumbs up our asses If you call I will come But I'm about as quick as molasses When I dream of you You're not wearing your glasses La la la la... |

The Raconteurs' new song, You Don't Understand Me, sounds EXACTLY like Sloan. As if Patrick Pentland was harmonizing with Chris Murphy and Jay Ferguson. I compulsively check the radio playlist everytime the song is on because I cannot be convinced that it's not Sloan. |
