Kadajah's MetaGame: Meta-Horror Suite for RPG Maker MZ
Break the Fourth Wall. Haunt the OS. Control the Experience.
Kadajahâs MetaGame transforms your RPG Maker MZ project from a simple application into a living, breathing entity that interacts directly with the player's Operating System.
Inspired by genre-defining titles like OneShot and Doki Doki Literature Club, this suite grants you absolute control over the game window, the file system, and the player's desktop environment. It allows you to create puzzles that exist outside the game window, terrorize players with simulated system crashes, and create an immersive "virus" simulation where the game refuses to die.
Important: This plugin utilizes NW.js features found in the standard PC/Mac deployment of RPG Maker MZ. It is designed specifically for desktop horror games and meta-narratives.
Features: The Poltergeist Window
Make the Application "Alive"
The game window is no longer a static frame; it is a character in itself. This plugin allows you to manipulate the physical window on the player's monitor in real-time.
- Organic Breathing: The window can rhythmically expand and contract, simulating breathing or a heartbeat.
- Window Chase: Enable "Chase Mode" to make the window physically flee from the mouse cursor, making it difficult for the player to click buttons or close the game.
- Violent Shaking: Vibrate the window frame on the desktop to simulate impacts, screams, or instability.
- Smooth & Instant Resizing: Shrink the window to a tiny box during claustrophobic moments, or expand it slowly to consume the screen.
- Flash Strobe: Rapidly hide and show the window to create a glitchy, strobe-light effect directly on the desktop wallpaper.
Features: The Meta-File System
Puzzles Beyond the Game World
Extend your gameplay into the Windows File Explorer. The plugin automatically manages a "MetaFiles" directory, allowing for complex alternate reality game (ARG) mechanics.
- Create & Read Files: Write .txt files containing clues, lore, or threats directly to the folder. You can also read text from files, allowing players to input passwords by editing a notepad document.
- Existence Checks: Create puzzles where the player must delete a specific file (e.g., enemy_shield.chr) to make an enemy vulnerable in-game.
- Evidence Gathering: Use the Screenshot Command to snap a photo of the current game state and save it as a PNG file on the player's computer for them to examine later.
- Save File Sacrifice: Implements "Permadeath" mechanics. You can program the game to Soft Delete (add .bak extension) or Hard Delete (permanently erase) specific save slots upon game over.
Features: System Control & Psychological Horror
True Immersion
Blur the line between software and reality with aggressive system interactions.
- Fake BSOD: Trigger a realistic HTML5 overlay that mimics a "Blue Screen of Death" crash (Critical Process Died), forcing the player to question if their PC actually crashed.
- Native Error Messages: Spawn actual Windows VBScript error popups (Info, Warning, or Critical icons) with custom text and titles. These appear outside the game window.
- Prevent Closure: Disable the "X" button. If the player tries to close the game, you can block the attempt and trigger a Switch to play a specific sound or dialogue (e.g., "I'm not done with you yet.").
- Force Restart: Instantly reboot the game application, perfect for "fake crashes" or time-loop mechanics.
Features: Advanced Surveillance
The Game is Watching
Use the player's behavior and environment as gameplay triggers.
- Process Detection: Check if specific programs are running on the player's PC.
- Example: Detect obs64.exe and change the dialogue to acknowledge that the player is streaming/recording.
- Example: Detect chrome.exe and tell the player to stop looking up a walkthrough.
- Minimize Detection: Detect when the player Alt-Tabs or minimizes the game. Use this to pause music, change the game state while they aren't looking, or punish them for looking away.
- Mouse Trap: Lock the mouse cursor inside the window boundaries, preventing the player from clicking away.
- Clipboard & Browser: Copy text (like a code) to the player's clipboard automatically, or force-open a URL in their default web browser.
Compatibility & Instructions
- Engine: RPG Maker MZ only.
- Platform: Windows/Mac Desktop Exports (NW.js). Does not work on Web Browsers or Mobile.
- Safety: While this plugin interacts with the OS, it is sandboxed within the game's folder (MetaFiles) and NW.js capabilities. It does not damage the actual Operating System.
