The Brazilian national team players of the 2010 World Cup may send messages through Twitter from South Africa but are prohibited to address internal affairs of the team.
The use of personal blog was authorized by the directors of the Brasileña de la Confederación de Fútbol (CBF) and encouraged players like Kaka who has some 380,000 followers on Twitter.
The Brazilian soccer body’s spokesman Rodrigo Paiva said that “athletes will be able to send texts without problems. The only restriction is that they can‘t address internal issues,” clarifying that “it is the same recommendation that it gives to the athletes when they are exposed to other media.”
After this news, the country’s newspapers recalled the controversy that arose in 2008 when the Brazilian Olympic Committee recommended that members of the delegation who played the Beijing Olympics to refrain from publishing comments on their personal blogs or photos from the concentration in China.
Besides Kaka, other national team players who use Twitter are usually midfielder Gilberto Silva, with 11,000 followers, and Sevilla’s Luis Fabiano.
