[TW: rape culture] Roguefeminist gets it: creepshots and rape culture: "they get off on your violation, they want more proof that women exist for them and them alone"
I'm reading Cold Comfort Farm for the first time and can barely restrain my glee. It's all so fricking brilliant. I've just gotten to the part where Mr. Mybug goes on and on about how the Brontes could not have written their books, that surely their brother did, and how he's basing that on three letters the brother wrote to an aunt...oh god, this is seriously delightful.
Garry Wills' essay on Rome's recent assault on nuns is giving me huge, inarticulate, sad-angry feelings. I think it's important and worth reading, for a couple reasons: it's a kind of witness-bearing to something wrong that's being done, and which has ramifications outside the Church; it's a chance to learn that nuns aren't (mostly) scary women who delight in smacking your hand with a ruler, but are in fact mostly pretty amazing. It's no accident that this is happening now.
I don't know, I keep choking up and stuff. *helpless*
