| We had a wonderful German Shephard when I was growing up and she lived to be 17 years old. After that, I wasn't sure ANY dog would be as great as Misty. However, a couple years ago, my heart opened up again when my parents adopted Fergus, the loveable Scottie. In about two weeks, I am adopting Bonnie, another Scottie, so Fergus is getting a friend. So, without further ado, I'd like to introduce our current family: ( Intro!Collapse ) | |

| Party is a toy fiend. He loves to chew, lick, carry, bounce, chase, pull what have you. He loves his toys, all toys, poorly horribly mangle and destroyed toys. We've followed all manufactures size/age/breed/chew guide lines and even invested in some 25$ extreme extra strength toys. All of which have been punished and shredded like they'd shit on the pope's hat. It seems that there is nothing he cannot destroy and then proceed to eat. He gets extremely upset when I have to take old toys away from him, but really they just are not safe any more. I am wondering if anyone has found something strong enough for bigger dogs/extreme chewers. He doesn't really care for sticks, I have caught him chewing on rocks and have been trying to put a stop to it. He had a few stuffed toys which he carries and loves for a while before desolating them. It wouldn't be as much of a problem if he didn't want to eat all the little pieces he breaks off. Things we thought would work: Rope tugs, he loves them but they do not love him back: He utterly destroyed the hard plastic on the previous 5, these two are the best survivors the others had to be swept up. Extreme durable ultra XXL tire Seemed good for a day or two, he loves this thing soo much. Really the best toy/most fun he's ever had, but sadly on day two: He only gets this back when someone will sit with him and tell him not to chew the broken parts, when he starts pulling on the strings etc it gets taken away again. Not dead yet: XXL Extreme Kong Minimal ware, and minimal interest. He likes it ok, but often will try and chew it for 10-20 minutes before tossing it aside fro another toy. This likely explains why it is not dead. Nylabone Theory was the soft toy would give and cushion his biting and prevent ware. We were wrong and little pink bits routinely fall off and sometimes get eaten. But he does like to actually play/chew this one, he often diches the kong for this toy. Blurry nom-ing shot. | |

| At first we thought that Party was having problems coming to terms with his sudden growth and being a large dog. We assumed he still believed in his heart of hearts that he was a small, petite little lap dog and not a 79 pound rottie. We now know that we were wrong, and Party is struggling with a much larger and more complex mental struggle. My dog identifies as a cat, despite our constant love and support we have not been able to get through this issue and as a result have decided to allow him to pursue his chosen identity as a cat. So now I give you the worlds first 79 pound cat or the cat-o-weiller. Maybe it's my fault for raising him with 4 cats.. These were taken when Party had forgotten I was still home. He also likes to stand on the window sill with all four paws balanced on the tiny ledge, one of these days it is going to break. Any other fur parents facing similar issues? :P | |

| ( Introduce Yourself-Collapse )So I moved into a studio apartment with my dog 1 month ago. There is a big backyard and there are some weeds and other plants that we didn't have at my parents house. Since I moved, Rolo has been periodically vomiting bright yellow bile in the morning. He does it once every couple days. Otherwise, he seems perfectly normal and healthy. He does have the tendency to eat pretty much anything. Do you think he could be eating something in the backyard? Or is there some other problem you know about related to them vomiting bile? My mother is making an appointment with the vet today, also. | |

| We finally figured it out! The snuggly warm dog hat and scarf is finally here! After some long, hard, tedious work, we finally got them past production! We made them in 3 sizes, XS, SM, M/L. We're also almost done with the slotted hats for the ears to poke out of. I'll post images of those when they're finally ready as well! </div> Thanks everyone for all the feedback and suggestions! You flippin' ROCK!

| Hi! My name is Sue. I am a 39 year old wife, mother, and grandmother (and a few other things that I'll leave out for now). I joined this great group because I discovered several months ago that I am in love with the Irish Terrier breed. Then, last week, I was fortunate enough to find Kandi, a three year old IT, that was in need of a new loving home. I live in Utah, close to the entrance to Antelope Island, which is in the Great Salt Lake, and I look forward to taking Kandi on many hikes on the island. Kandi is beautiful and sweet, but she is very "alpha" dogish. We began obedience classes on Wednesday and I'm trying not to get discouraged and frustrated by some of her less endearing qualities. Such as her "claiming me as her own" during class by peeing on my leg in front of everyone. She has never done that to me, or anyone in my family, so I was quite shocked by that. She also has an issue with submissive urinating which makes it hard for me to reprimand her for being naughty. But, she is very smart and it is obvious that she has been trained in the basics (sit, stay, come, etc) by her previous owner. I'm sure we have a lot of growing to do together. - Mood:giggly

| So last night I was going through last winter's bag of ideas for winter dog hats and I found this funny red corduroy one which Stewie just loves to wear. I always laugh so hard when he wears this one but it poses a good question for this season's line of winter-wear.... QUESTION: What is in more of demand by the customer??? a) Dog hats with cute lil teddy ears on the side or b) Dog hats with lil slits for the pet's real ears to poke out of? Help me out here... Let's put it to a VOTE! Reply to this post and tell me your opinion. | |

Birthday or Age: Adoption Day (we dont know her birthday exactly) October 10, 2006 She will be 2. Breed: Labrador Retriever Something about your Dog: I volunteer at my local shelter. Two years ago a group of lab puppies came in between the ages of 4/5 weeks and 3 months it was from a person who had a bunch of unaltered animals. | Hey guys, I thought you all might be really interested in ZooToo.com which is a new social network for animal lovers (just like I said in the subject haha). I actually found my groomer with it using their pet services function. So if you're like me and have a dog AND a cat, this is a place where you can put them (and other kinds of pets/animals) up in your own zoo. there's also pet news, meet-up groups, product reviews by members, and tons of other stuff. Anyway, just thought I'd share. I'm looking to gain friends on there! OH and i almost forgot to mention that they do good for the animal community by making over shelters and giving a portion of the ad rev gained by people being on the site to shelters. i think that the more you use the site/invite people/make friends, the more $$ goes to the shelter of your choice... hence my motivation to get friends!!!! Add me!!!!

She's smart and fast. Unfortunately, she doesn't like strangers even though I tried socializing her as a puppy. Her name was originally going to be Harry Potter because of the lightning bolt on her forehead, but I was told I couldn't name her that from my Stepmother because that's who I was buying her from, lol. Introduce Your Dog- Dogs Name or Nickname: Remy Birthday or Age: About 5 Breed: Border Collie/German Shepherd Dog mix Something about your Dog: I rescued Remy from a shelter when he was only a few months old. Dog's Age: Max is around five months old and Mouse is a little over a year old. About my Dogs: My mother in law breeds Chihuahua's so I've pretty much known Mouse since the moment she was born and from that very moment I just felt that something was very special about that little puppy: I was right! She's the sweetest and smartest little dog I've ever met. As for Max I got him, also from my mother in law, when he was 12 wks old I think. I've never been around Scotties before and really wasn't sure what to think about him at first....he was so...aloof...a complete opposite from what I was used to. Now though...wow..he wears my chihuahua out. He's so playfull, loveable, and learns tricks so quickly! Heres Mouse. . And Max. I can only get those dignified profile shots of him, it's cute.

| I am writing this in the hope that just one of you can help just one of the collies in a group of collies in dire need. These collies were seized over five months ago by the SPCA of NY. At first they was a lot of media attention, but now they have been forgotten. Many collie rescue groups sent money and volunteers to help these collies. Foster homes are waiting for them. But the SPCA of NY refuses to cooperate and the collies are kept confined to small crates. Without proper exercise this confinement is slowly driving these dogs crazy. One dog, sweet and happy in the beginning, began spinning endlessly in his crate, his eyes glazed over because of his cruel confinement. Another, a senior collie, needs daily exercise to help ease the pain of his arthritis, but he isn't getting it. Kept confined 23 hours a day in a crate he cannot even stretch out when he sleeps. Please take a look at the updates on the American Working Collie Association's website. We are hoping that if enough people begin questioning why these dogs are not receiving proper care something will be done, and maybe the collies will be released into the foster homes they desperately need. Maybe one of you, living in this area of NY might consider adopting one of these poor souls. http://www.awca.net/SeeleyCollieArchives.htm http://www.awca.net/The problem is in the beginning there is all this media attention and people rush to adopt the animals rescued but over time they are forgotten. And in the case of these collies the conditions they are being kept in aren't much better than those they were rescued from. The collie's owner pled guilty, so there was no trial. The dogs were signed over to the SPCAUNY and were available for adoption right away. Potential adopters were turned away by the humane society as were experienced foster homes. If you read the Seeley collie archives you will see an accounting of how all offers of help from collie rescue has been refused and the conditions the collies have been kept. When you go to the website for the SPCAUNY you will not see any mention of these collies looking for homes. The majority of the collies are kept upstairs in crates so potential adopters do not even see them. Maybe if we all emailed the SPCAUNY and inquired about how these collies are being cared for, something will be done. We only ask that anyone contacting them be polite, we are afraid that the collies may simply disappear if people harass the staff at the SPCAUNY. Also, maybe you could contact your local news and ask them to do a follow-up story on what is happening with the collies now. Provide a link to the Seeley collie archives so they can read for themselves about these poor collies. If we get these collies back into the media potential adopters will come forward once again. Finally, if you live close enough to the SPCA you could volunteer your time to walk these collies, as we need to get them out of those crates as often as possible. | |

| I have a four-month-old Native American Shepherd Dog (AKA 'Native American Indian Dog' or NAID, not to be confused with the 'American Indian Dog') puppy. She's my first dog and continually amazes me. She's got an incredibly sweet disposition, and even when she gets bossy she's never aggressive, just keyed up. And all it takes to get her back to her usual self is a good energy-dispersing romp. She especially blows me away with her smarts. If I point and tell her to look, she looks where I'm pointing, not at my finger. She can 'get' and 'bring' any object she knows the name of if it's within her attention-span range. As she gets older the range will, of course, grow. :) Anyway, I finally found my camera today, so... You can't see her funny two-color-layer coat (under all that black is a dusty reddish tan undercoat) but most of her prettiness is visible. ^^ ( Eek, big pictures.Collapse ) | |

| I heard thro my own FEMA co-ordinator that FEMA is banning breeds such as Pitbulls, Rottwielers,German Sheperds,Dobermans and other breed that have the potential to be more agressive than other breeds from living in the trailers provided for hurricane refugees(there a loop hole that will allow them to ban ANY dog deemed potentually dangerous or agressive).
I have mixed feelings about this as some of these dogs that will be banned are gentle and have been raised to be so. Id like them to stay with thier owners... But then there are dogs like my neighbors its a massive chocolate pitbull that has been raised aggressive, and Im afraid of him for myself and my own dogs. I will be glad to see that dog gone. I just wish FEMA could review each dog as it is and not use a blanket ban on them. This is going to cost some dogs thier lives and Id hate to see a good dog put down to someones misunderstanding of the dog itself.

| My Fiance and I went to the Humane society the other day and the caregivers there constantly stress the importance of using the hand sanitizer provided before handleing each and every animal there. I didnt realize just why until one worker told of one lady who refused to do so. She had handled a newly brought in dog and then proceded to handle most of the dogs in the smalldog/puppy area of the building. The newly brought in dog tested high positive for Parvo Virus. Due to her carelessness she infected most of the dogs in that area. To prevent the spread of the virus, each and every dog and puppy in there was euthanized.
Please follow the rules if you go into such places and its a good idea to carry you own bottle of sanitizer if they dont provide it.

| Hi, My name is Savaaha, I currently live in coastal Mississippi Im 31 yrs old. My dog is Sundance (Sunny), a 4yr old(?) Papillon mix, We are pretty sure hes papillon/Chihuahua. Ive had him for 2 yrs now after rescueing him from being shot by a truck stop owner who could not catch him( he was either dumped or lost by truck driver). He started out training as an psychiatric service dog but as I no longer have problems with depression he no longer is in training and is simply my companion. He definatly has the papillon mentality and loves everyone. He truly is the best dog Ive ever had. - Mood:happy
