| the Joy of Hosen !!!!!!!! |
[29 Nov 2005|01:51pm] |
At last, Lederhosen Lucil emerges from the pantry!
This German-accented singing sensation with blond braids, a taste for dried apricots, and an ever-growing wardrobe of lederhosen (German short-pant-overall things) has many secrets to share. Where did she come from? The origins of the character the Montreal Mirror called “one of Montreal’s most outrageous musical acts” (and one of the city’s best-dressed) are now exposed…
Since her stage debut in 1998, the now-legendary Lucil has inspired visual artists and writers to create beautiful photos, comics, pictures, and stories — all part of The Joy of Hosen. Take an eight-year visual odyssey through the evolution of Lucil’s costumes, wigs, poster art, song lyrics, set lists, comic art, and more. Experience the unfolding of this raw creation process in The Joy of Hosen, and witness some of the ideas it has sparked in drawings from a spectrum of other artists.
Designed by artist and master poster maker Todd “Breeree” Stewart, this book features photographer Jocelyn Michel’s juicy shots of Lucil sporting each of her unique hosen. The Joy of Hosen: Lederhosen Lucil Up Close und Pictorial is a delightful addition to any book collection. Full of tasty surprises for her fans, it is easy to see why Lucil is so very loved! [from Mud Scout]
I'm super excited for the book & I'm going to preorder it from Mud Scout so I can have a signed copy <3 heck $24 [canadian] is totally worth it, Lucil's book is going to ROCK!!!!!!

| Lederhosen Lucil in Hamburg |
[19 Sep 2005|10:35pm] |
Lucil made my year by coming to Hamburg. I've known about her music since last October. It was one of those things where I read about her, then went straight to her website, downloaded all the mp3s, and fell in love. I wrote to her a few times, begging her to come to Hamburg. And I'm glad she finally did.
She appeared at Hafenklang (Harbor Sound), near the Hamburg Fischmarkt, September 14th, a Wednesday, opening for a Finnish band: The Tigerbombs. Her show began with the "Semi Sweet" video projected onto a screen next to the stage. Then she made her entrance, in a pirate costume (especially for Hamburg), and began her magic. She played songs from "Hosemusik", "Tales From the Pantry" and of course "Apricota". Lucil told us that she's learning German, and she threw in quite a few German words between and during songs to prove it. At one point she called us all "lecker" (delicious), but then wasn't sure it fit. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more German texts from Lucil in the future. Of course she sang "Meine Augen", and then "La Vocabulaire", "Doin' the Ganglion", "Love Bites" and others. (Not necessarily in that order). I wasn't the only one there who knew Lucil's music, as someone requested "Dishwasher", and for her last song (I was afraid to request it in such a crowded room) she played "You Suck". After her concert there was a chance to exchange a few words with Lucil herself, tell her how much I loved her music, and stock up on CDs and singles. She autographed her CD in German for me: "Du bist der Hammer! Shall we hose again?" to which I can only say: "Jawohl!"

| The unofficial Lederhosen Lucil fairy tale |
[09 Feb 2005|03:09pm] |
Just wanted to say, I read a lot of impressions by people who have seen Lederhosen Lucil in concert and they always seem to describe a totally magical experience. I haven't seen her perform but the creative charisma that shines through on her CDs and the bonus tracks at http://www.lederhosenlucil.com/muzik is simply amazing. It made me want to try and write a fairy tale about her. I hope it's all right to share it here:
Pausing between beats Lucil became the Lorelei in a whole other century. After teasing a river sailor with the promise of a kiss she stepped down from the rocks and borrowed his boat, steering it along the Rhine until the far off sound of festivities floated to her ears. She saw the tent of a biergarten, abandoned the boat and went inside, beginning a silent hum under her breath, letting it grow louder into words as those near her paused, raised their eyes from their bier steins and began to notice her. The party chatter and bier talk died down as her tones floated to the far corners of the tent. All were silent, except Lucil, and every ear listened to her sing. They heard music like the happy ends of the fairy tales they had known as a child. They listened while the waves of the Rhine lapped lazily at the shore. The bier had been heaven, but this was like being in love the first time again. No one wanted it to end. In one corner of the tent sat Beethoven himself. He could hear her clearly. Lucil winked at him as she sang. Somewhere in the distance a cuckoo clock sounded. As quickly as Lucil had arrived, she slipped through a slit in the tent and was gone again. She journeyed to the Americas, traveled North to Canada, where she settled in Montreal, waiting several hundred years for the moment in her concert when she would slip back in between beats. Somewhere in another time, Beethoven went home and composed his Ninth Symphony.

| 3-D pic / French lyrics explanation |
[30 Dec 2004|09:32am] |
Just a reminder to newer people that if you go to the bottom of this page and hit "Go earlier," you will see some messages from me in July/Aug. where I presented a rare April 2004 ***3-D pic*** of Lederhosen Lucil, plus a comment to a discussion where I divulged the full explanation of the French lyrics, German lyrics, and Canadian references in her songs. Just the thing to be initiated into the inner secrets of Lucil...
Shameless boosterism on my part, I know! But my home computer was down for over 2 months and I hadn't visited for a while. If you're new, tell me what you think.
Coming soon, Lederhosen Lucil co-stars in the movie "Elvis' 3-D House of Rock'n'Roll Wax"...
"May you always get your TVP back..." :-)
My personal page's link page mentions Lucil, plus some other weird-ass musicians from my city of Toronto. http://downstat.homestead.com/OtherLinks.html

| Yes, but at what time!? |
[21 Nov 2004|05:20pm] |
|
Ok, this may be a bit late in the game to be asking this, but, does anyone have any idea at what time the show at Main Hall in Montreal starts tonight? I'm guessing around nine, but none of the places I've looked at on the web actually give a time. I mean, I wouldn't want to be late to see the fantabulous Lucil.

hello fellow lucil fans, I heard about this journal a while ago, but somehow forgot to check it out. I can't wait to hear the new collaborations on the single, although let's be fair: they can't compare with the yamaha's scratching preset, heh.
My first, and currently only, LL show was in Middlesbrough, England on the Short Attention Span tour (15-11-03!). There was pretty much no one there, so my friends and I were sitting on silly plastic chairs right infront of the yamaha, it was excellent. I forgot my camera, but later managed to get a copy of the ones taken by the resident photographer.

[edit]
Incase this is not already old news,
there are a couple of live lucil sets circulating on the net, these are:
Short Attention Span Theatre Tour, Montreal 06-11-03
and
Live In CBC Vancouver Studio 2 (Oct 11_2002)
they are quite easy to find on soulseek, and definately worth getting.
P.S. if anyone fancies picking up one of the hand-made 7" sleeves for me then I will be somewhat grateful... and by somewhat I mean extremely.
