Avis Charm Semi-Closed, Sixth Year NEWT students only
Professor Flitwick stood calmly behind his desk, on the tall stack of books he needed to see over the top of it, as the sixth year students filed into the room. He cleared his throat as they began to settle and they all turned their attention to him.
"Good morning class! Today we shall be learning the Avis charm. This charm will cause a flock of birds to appear when cast. Now, I know you might be wondering what practical use this spell may be, but let me tell you, it can come in very handy. I once knew a young woman who used this charm to ward off an angry bug-bear! Not to mention the fact that with a bird on your shoulder one is never alone."
He clapped his hands together. "Now, you may have noticed that I have not paired you off into partner groups, as have many of your other professors. And indeed I am not going to. I find you all work much better when you are sitting with students of your own choosing. But be warned! If there is too much socializing I will be forced to separate you!"
"Very good! Now, on to the charm! The incantation is, as you may have already guessed, Avis! Please place stress the 'A' sound. The wand movement is a gentle flick! And when you have sufficicent control you will be able to choose the breed and color of your birds! Please practice the incantation once before using your wand. I shall be walking among you to correct technique. You may begin!"
