Looking at the visuals - Atlantis really is a special snowflake! Oy.

Which, okay, now the episode is over I can share some (non-spoilery) thoughts.

1) I have now watched 3 whole episodes of SGA! (I watched Vegas just before this) It's almost like I can pretend I know the canon! Woot!

2) If I could just watch this show with a bitchin' soundtrack and no talking, I might actually enjoy it. The dialogue is just so incredibly awful, though. If TPTB had made SGA as, like, a 5 season long music video, I probably would have loved it. It's so gorgeous! Lovely sci-fi visuals! Aliens! (okay, not alien-looking enough, but no sci-fi aliens are ever alien enough for me - damn humanoids) Hot actors! But then they have to talk and, just, no.

3) Actually, I think that's all I really have to say. SGA fandom, keep on keepin' on, please.

I think bad dialogue is epidemic in action-centered sci-fi. There's just not much even the best actors can do with some of the BS they have to spout. (Except learn to spout it very fast. Allegedly the average Stargate script was about twenty pages longer than a normal hour-length drama, because they relied on certain actors' abilities to spew technobabble at about 700 syllables per minute.)

I agree with this statement in ways that are vast beyond description. So, so much.

(Of course, I also think that Weisz Kreuz is best enjoyed in its original language, without subtitles, while remembering as little Japanese as possible. And before that... well, I am used to fandoms where one rewatches the canon as little as possible.) ^_^
