If you hadn't launched as a pop band, do you think you'd be regarded more like Arctic Monkeys?
Dougie: I think if we'd come out in a more traditional way then we'd have been in a different position. But it's a shame that some people will decide whether they like us or not based simply on which TV shows they've seen us on.

Controversy
Many fans of punk rock are annoyed at the likes of McFly because they play guitars and drums, but sing with trademark boyband lyrics, which have a far lighter tone than bands like Green Day , Good Charlotte, etc. However, the members have been playing instruments and writing songs for several years, so any implication that the instruments were used as a marketing ploy to make them more 'real' are deeply cynical.
