About Scholarships

Scholarship programs are sponsored by the United States Department of State’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs and include programs such as Fulbright, Humphrey, Myanmar Leadership, Community Solutions and many others. The programs provide a fully-funded opportunity to:

  • study, teach, and/or conduct research
  • exchange ideas
  • find solutions to shared international concerns
  • learn about the United States

Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship

Full scholarship funding to students from Myanmar seeking a Master’s Degree at a university in the United States of America.

Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship

A one-year fellowship that sends accomplished professionals to the United States for graduate-level academic coursework and related professional experiences. Fellows are selected based on their potential for leadership and commitment to public service in either the public or private sector. Humphrey Fellows participate in non-degree study at approximately 13 host campuses across the United States and complete at least six weeks of a professional affiliation at a U.S.-based governmental, non-governmental, private sector, or international organization.

Youth Ambassadors East Asia and Pacific Exchange

The U.S. Embassy in Yangon is pleased to announce the 2025 Youth Ambassadors East Asia and Pacific (YA EAP). YA EAP is a month-long exchange program in the United States focused on civic education, community engagement, leadership development, and respect for diversity with a sub-theme of environmental sustainability. The exchanges will take place from April 9 – May 8, 2025.  Upon completion, participants will apply what they have learned to design and implement projects that serve needs in their communities. The program welcome applications from both student participants and adult chaperones.

Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program

A nine-month, fully funded, non-degree program that provides young teachers of English an opportunity to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency and extend their knowledge of the society and culture of the United States, while teaching their native language (Myanmar) to U.S. students. Participants will take U.S. university classes, and at the same time serve as teaching assistants for their native language.

Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program

Brings international secondary-level teachers to the United States for a six-week program to take academic seminars for professional development at a host university and to observe and share their expertise with teachers and students at the host university and at local secondary schools.

Study of U.S. Institutes for Secondary School Educators

Intensive post-graduate level academic program with integrated study tours whose purpose is to provide foreign secondary educators and administrators the opportunity to deepen their understanding of U.S. society, culture, values, and institutions. The goal is to strengthen curricula and to enhance the quality of teaching about the United States in secondary schools and other academic institutions abroad. SUSIs for Secondary Educators will take place at various academic institutions throughout the United States over the course of five weeks in the summer.

English Language Fellow Program

Through the English Language Fellow Program, the U.S. Embassy Rangoon places talented, highly qualified American TESOL professionals on 10-month fellowships at academic institutions and ministries in Burma. Fellows serve as cultural ambassadors who promote English language learning and mutual understanding through their projects which include activities such as: teaching English for up to 15 hours per week, facilitating teacher training, assisting with curriculum and materials development, and conducting outreach. This is a competitive program for which any institute interested in hosting a Fellow may submit a project proposal. Host institutions should have the institutional and human resource capacity to make effective use of the Fellow’s skills and ideas, to integrate an American educator into its staff, and to commit to some level of cost sharing. Host institutions must be fully committed to supporting the professional and personal needs of the Fellow.

Fulbright U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar Program

Staff of think tanks, NGOs, and all professionals in the private sector conduct scholarly, professional research and lecture in the United States for 3-4 months during the spring; seek opportunities to provide an ASEAN perspective through guest lectures, seminars, or participation in academic or professional conferences.

Study of the U.S. Institutes for Scholars

Intensive post-graduate level academic programs that provide foreign university faculty and other scholars the opportunity to deepen their understanding of U.S. society, culture, values, and institutions. The program goal is to strengthen curricula and to enhance the quality of teaching about the United States in academic institutions abroad. The Institutes will take place at various colleges, universities, and academic institutions throughout the United States over the course of five-to-six weeks in late-May or early-July.

The Community Solutions Program is a year-long professional leadership development program for established community leaders working to improve their communities by addressing issues related to the democracy and human rights, environment, peace and conflict resolution, and women and gender. The Program includes a four-month hands-on U.S. practicum, personalized leadership coaching and training through a graduate level leadership curriculum, and a six-month follow-on community project fellows implement in their home country.
