Independent Authority Against Corruption Office, Ulaanbaatar
(As Prepared)
Good morning, distinguished guests, colleagues, and members of the law enforcement community.
It is my honor to welcome you to the launch of the Mongolian Institutional Integrity and Transparency Phase II project. Today marks a significant step forward in our shared commitment to strengthening good governance and promoting transparency in Mongolia.
I would like to thank the International Development Law Organization for hosting this event, and to recognize the leadership of M. Chinbat, Deputy Prosecutor General of Mongolia, and G. Azjargal, Deputy Head of the Independent Authority Against Corruption of Mongolia. Your dedication to combating corruption is essential to building public trust and advancing Mongolia’s democratic institutions.
This initiative is made possible through the support of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, or INL. The United States, through INL, is proud to partner with Mongolia in fostering institutional integrity and transparency.
Corruption remains one of the most pervasive forms of crime. It fuels transnational criminal activity, wastes public resources, destabilizes societies, and undermines good governance. Increasingly, authoritarian regimes weaponize corruption to maintain power and erode democracy both at home and abroad.
This Phase II project is part of our broader effort to enhance the ability of nations to cooperate internationally in efforts to promote good governance. This effort includes capacity-building initiatives focused on international legal cooperation, mutual legal assistance, complex case investigations, asset recovery, and the development of multi-country practitioner networks. These relationships and networks benefit Mongolia and also support U.S. law enforcement in addressing criminal schemes with links to the United States.
I hope this project will make an impactful change in Mongolia, strengthening the rule of law and solidifying foundations of justice and accountability for all.
Thank you all for joining us today. I look forward to the presentations and to our continued partnership in advancing integrity and transparency in Mongolia.
