It's time to downsize everything in preparation for a move, and that includes my beloved fanzine collection. I am happy to mail zines to anyone in the U.S. just for reimbursement of postage costs. Good condition.

This batch contains GEN Man from UNCLE zines. I have a lot more of the slashy stuff and that list will follow in a few days.

Comment to this post or PM me if interested.

It's that time of the year when our stockings are overflowing with delicious fanfic about our favorite spies! Head on over to AO3 to indulge in all the fabulous yummy treats left for us.

The Down the Chimney Affair 2024"

Remember, if you uploaded your story early, you can go in and edit your story to change the publication date to something a little more current. That way it will display on the 'front page' of our fandom's fanworks listing.

A HUGE thank-you to Timemidae, who did all the heavy lifting for me this year. This tradition would have been MIA this year without her. Please be sure to let her know how much you appreciate all her effort!

Friends, it is time! The authors who wrote the 15 tantalizing MFU stories this year are now public. If you have not done so yet(or even if you have), go ahead and check out the stories and their authors and be sure to give them some love. Did you guess correctly which author wrote which story?

Thank you so much to all who participated. This is such a labor of love at the busiest time of year, and your devotion to our fandom is awesome!

Happy to announce that the 2023 Down the Chimney Affair is now live. We have 15 stories for your reading enjoyment.

Thank you to the authors who generously shared their time and love of MFU with us. Please be sure to leave them love in the form of kudos and comments.

You will find the stories right here.

Authors will be revealed on January 1, 2024.

All story assignments for the Down the Chimney Affair have now been emailed to the writers. Please let me know if you do not receive your writing assignment soon (don't forget to check your spam/junk folders) so I can re-send it manually.

This year's matching of authors to recipients was a bit of a challenge as there were several new and unfamiliar participants. Fingers crossed everyone is pleased with their assignments.

Your stories are due to be posted to the AO3 collection no later than December 16th. That way if there are any defaults there will still be time to get a pinch hit story written. If anyone has difficulty meeting that deadline please let me know as soon as possible.

Any questions or concerns, do contact me, either via DW PM or email vysila at comcast dot net

Wow, those three weeks went fast! The signup window to participate in DtCA will close later today, so if you've been on the fence about it, today is the day!

I am grateful to those who signed up already, knowing that we lost David during this signup period and yet chose to go forward with participating. I appreciate you all and am looking forward to seeing what y'all come up with.

Tomorrow at some point you will receive your assignments, so if you don't receive one by Monday, be sure to get in touch with me. I know I've been having a real problem with mail getting diverted into my spam folder lately, so don't forget to check there.

As always, I am available via email for any questions, clarifications, defaults, and so on.

Thanks so much for keeping this lovely tradition alive.

He died today, September 25, six days after his 90th birthday.

There are some truly beautiful tributes online - a quick google will turn them up. His wife of over 50 years only said that she wished they had had the chance to grow old together.

May David be at peace and may his family find comfort in that.

Here in this community, this fandom, we will remember him as Illya, Number 2 of Section 2 of the U.N.C.L.E. And as such, he will always be forever young.

Sorry it took a little longer to get this done than expected. I had a domestic crisis that delayed me for a couple of weeks. But! The 2023 Collection and Gift Exchange Challenge is now live and ready for you to sign up! You will have three weeks to sign up to participate.

Remember, if you sign up to receive a story, you must also be willing to write one in exchange. The rules and FAQs are right there on the AO3 collection profile page and should there be any questions in following the various instructions, do not hesitate to contact me directly at vysila AT comcast DOT net.

Here's a handy link to the profile page where you can sign up:

Looking forward to your tasty holiday stories!

Yep, it's already that time when we need to start thinking about our annual winter holiday/Christmas fic exchange, even if it is a long way off still. So here I am, once again gauging interest.

Also, this will be our 18th annual exchange (we skipped a year or two in there), and on that high note I must sadly announce that I will probably not manage one after this year. So if there is anyone who would like to take over the AO3 exchange for next year and beyond, do please let me know.

Cross-posting to the LJ communities as well.

(Also, a heads up for those not on LJ - their MFU Scrapbook Halloween fic challenge is currently accepting prompts. Contact spikesgirl58 via PM here on DW for info on getting in on that.)

In response to my recent post seeking zine-only recs, one person brought up U.N.C.L.E. Under Wraps by Linda White (nsandik), a collection of stories in her Third-Level Universe. [personal profile] dancingpony asked if any were online, which led me down a rabbit hole, the fruits of which are below.

ETA: See the comments for gilda_elise's list of Third-Level stories, both online and zine-only, in in-universe chronological order.

1) A number of stories from the zine are online. I added five new links to the Fanlore article on the zine.

2) I found Third-Level stories not in the zine on the Third Level page at File 40 and on Linda White's page at Fanfic Depot.

3) I found the following further Third-Level stories:
The Revenge is Mine Affair
The S'Mores Affair
The D.R.E.A.M. Machine Affair
The Ice Man Affiar
The Ruby Butterfly Affair

4) I also found the following stories by Linda White that may or may not be Third-Level stories:
The Team Player Affair
The Two Birds, One Stone Affair
The Walter Mitty Affair (Part 1, Part 2)
[ETA: gilda_elise says The Walter Mitty Affair is set in the Third-Level Universe, but before its special features start to manifest.]
Dinner for One

Do pipe up if you have more information.

What are your favorite MFU stories that are only available in zines? What do you like about them?

I'm considering ordering some MFU fic in hard copy from Make It Go Away, but there is a fair amount to choose from. I thought some recs might help.

(If anyone wants to rec from what MIGA has available, you can see the adult zines here and the non-adult zines here. If you want to know about my preferences, see this post. Any of that is only for people who'd enjoy it, though.)

I don't want to create spam, but I know some people are members of this comm who are not part of the MFU Canteen. I've recently started a social episode watch with accompanying text chat. Details below.

The next Social MFU Watch will be held at 01:00 UTC, Tuesday, 4 April. This will be 9 PM ON MONDAY North American Eastern time, 6 PM ON MONDAY Pacific time, and 11 AM on Tuesday Australian Eastern time.

(I am not trying to accommodate European cousins for this watch. The next watch will take place at 19:00 UTC on Saturday, 8 April, which will be 9 PM Central European time, 3 PM North American Eastern time, and 12 PM Pacific time.)

At the coming event, we will be watching The Shark Affair.

To attend the watch, navigate to this watch room at the appointed time. Note that this is a different address than for the last watch. If you want to chat under your own name, you will need to register with the site ahead of time, which is free. Otherwise you will be assigned a random animal name.

The Social Watch aims to accommodate both gen and slash fans. Slash fans are asked to keep any slashy comments G-rated while gen fans are asked to practice tolerance.

Any interest in participating in another round of Down the Chimney this year? I see the Halloween challenge on LJ got a lot of prompts, which is cool, and I hope we have the same level of interest in DtCA.

Please comment here (or over on LJ, where I will also post). We could start signups next week, once I get the challenge set up on AO3.

Thanks!

 Hi!

Thank you again to everyone who has participated or helped spread the word about the
MFU Mini Fundraiser for Ukraine. I'm very proud of what we have accomplished in our little fan community. So far we've raised $237: $197 for the IRC and $40 for @lindafishes' local contact in Ukraine. There are still a few offers left that can be claimed (a fic, a podfic, and 2 pieces of visual art from some very talented folks), so I'll hold off from calling this the final number for now. (It would be very satisfying to get to a round number like $250 before this is over, you know, if you're the kind of person who's into neat round numbers and also mfu fanworks. The price of this zine has just dropped to $13, a number I picked totally at random).

I'll post the actual final numbers at the end of the week/month, so I hope you have enough patience in you to hear from me one last time. <3
