This is a community for fans of mythology, fairy tales, folk tales, and urban legend.
Fan fic and original fiction of all shapes and sizes is welcome.
Reviews, essays, meta, news, old dissertations, icons, banners, fan vids, etc are also welcome.

Included are classic works such as The Iliad and Ramayana, as well as myth focused modern media, like Xena, and the new movie Gods of Egypt. It includes mythology, etc. in fandom, as well as mythology, etc. in general. It also includes episodes of TV shows that feature fantastical creatures. Myth Fan is a new community evolving to suit the interests of its members. Your feedback determines our direction.

Accepted works include original fiction, fan fic, drabbles, fan vids, icons, banners, gifs, art work, etc. These can be yours, reccs, or simply posts you think the comm will enjoy. News, essays, meta, and reviews are also allowed in our genres. And I'm not joking about the old dissertations.

Submission Guidelines:

As long as the fic or art work has a myth, fairy tale, or urban fantasy creature, and/or is from a fantasy/magickal type fandom, it counts. So if you leave a batch of icons, let us know it’s from fandom __, or an episode featuring __. If it's an original work, please use the title/world/universe name as the fandom in the header.

If you want to put that original character, that is in no way based on yourself, into Jason and the Argonauts, that counts.

If you want to throw ghosts or the Lock Ness monster in the fandom of your choice, that counts.

And yes, Thor and Loki from Marvel count. As does Raven and Wonder Woman from DC, because those are all based on real world myths.

Posting Guidelines:
Please use a header with title, fandom, pairing/characters, rating, warnings, disclaimer, short summary, etc.
Please use "verse", "region", "media", and member tags.
Please specify which specific version/movie/series/fandom (from the "verse") you are writing for in the header.
Please use an LJ cut or a link to your own LJ, AO3, etc.
Cover art is welcome, provided it is 500x300 or smaller.
For graphics posts, only three icons, or a banner 500x300 or smaller above cut, please.

*Note about tags/posting: To keep things as tidy as possible, instead of tags for individual shows, I put things in universe wherever possible. Individual tv, movie, and fandom tags will be given on an as needed basis.

Examples:
Whedon Verse = Buffy, Angel, the comics, etc.
Renaissance Productions = Xena, Hercules, Legend of the Seeker, and the Evil Dead.
WB = Charmed, Roswell, etc.
CW = The Vampire Diaries, etc.
Disney would include Once Upon a Time as well as any movie.

I did separate Homer and Shakespeare as verses. But in most cases, tags are separated by region, such "indian/hindu" and "native american_north".
'Creature' tags for vampires, witches, mermaids, etc.
There are 'character' tags for original characters, and famous personalities, such as Dracula and Frankenstein.

*Member and other needed tags will be given upon first posting. Please allow your mod 48 hours to adjust your tags. If you have untagged creatures in your fic, you can use the Notes or Summary to alert me, unless that would spoil your story.

So how do all these sibling comm’s work together? Let’s say a prompt makes you want to write a story about Hera.

If she’s a pissy goddess with creepy, clear blue eyes, who does nothing but make Hercules’ life miserable, then that fic goes in myth_fan, under the verse of "renaissance productions" with "Fandom: Hercules or Xena" in the header.

If she’s more martial with a gold encrusted war chariot, who hangs out with Athena, then that also goes in myth_fan, under the verse of "homer" with "Fandom: Iliad or Odysseus" in the header.

If she has two green tentacles and pilots The Ghost, then that goes in aanime_fan, in the verse "star wars", with "Fandom: Rebels" in the header.

Is she’s the magickal priestess warrior queen of Attica when the first wave of Indo-Europeans come sweeping down, led by a man who may or may not be named Zeus, then that goes here as "media: original fic". And I will read the eff out of it. And give you a "fandom_original: __" tag.

If she’s the multiverse source being of all of these, then xpost that fic! And if you want to enter the contest, xpost to puzzleprompts

Important Appropriation and Respect Note:

Now, this is fandom, so appropriation is the name of the game. But let’s all remember that myth was and still is part of many people’s religion. So please, don’t set out to write anything disrespectful just to be a small-minded ass. Some of us do believe in some of this. Many of you believe in the Force, and you know it. Also, please remember these beings come from specific cultures and time periods. Again, it’s fan fiction, but hey, a little historical accuracy never hurt anything!

One Hard Line Here - No Stories Featuring Muhammad! None. Just don’t go there.

Angels, Genii, Nagas, Nephilim, pair Jesus with Mary Magdalene (they are married according to some traditions), throw Kama and Apollo together (like they wouldn’t). That’s all okay. But anything depicting The Prophet will be deleted. I’m not Muslim, I’m just tired of people being bigots.

And a note to true believers - skip fic that features your beliefs if you think it will offend you. Goodness knows inaccurate myth representation in the media eats at my soul. And I’m running this comm. Because I love mythology! And I want to share that love with you.

Have fun! And remember, strip away all the layers, and Homer and the other Greeks were basically writing RPF about their ancestors’ gods.
