Today I was thinking about the vacation my parents and I took way back in 1976 when we travelled all the way down to Kingston. We stopped at Old Fort Henry and went on the guided tour there and saw the battle re-enactment.

That night we stayed at a motel that had a pool but never had a chance to use it.
The following morning we went to Ganaoque where we had breakfast at a local restaurant. I ordered pancakes with strawberries that were a peculliar brown colour.
Near the restaurant was also the "House of Haunts" complete with a headless mannequin outside. I didn't want to go there so I was glad my parents never mentioned it.
We then went on the boat cruise. I don't remember much since it was 30 years ago already, but I do remember the ship stopping at Boldt Castle. We could have gotten out to explore the castle if we wanted to but I forget why we didn't.

Probably because my parents wanted to get home sooner. The car wasn't working properly and I was coming down with something. I had a fever and mom kept me amused by giving me a corking kit. I ran out of the yarn that came with it rather quickly.
At least once we finally got the car fixed we spent the rest of our vacation up at the trailer, but Dr. Ho had perscribed me penicillin. We TOLD him I was allergic to it, but he didn't listen, so I broke ut in a rash because of it. It was a vile, nasty liquid that tasted andsmelt like sulphured peaches.
Someday I wouldn't mind going back to Ganaoque and getting a better look at the place and not have to be rushed away due to car trouble and/or illness. |
