崑崙黒 （コンロンコク）
ツツジ目、ツバキ科、ツバキ属の常緑低木
花の色が非常に深い黒味を帯びた紅色、黒紅色が特徴のもので、『黒椿』に分類されている。そんな黒ツバキの中でも、気品と神秘性を備えた珍しい椿として愛好家の間で知られている品種となる。
名についた『崑崙』（コンロン）は、中国神話に登場する天上界に連なる霊山『崑崙山』（コンロンザン）に由来しており、此処は仙人の住む聖地とされるもので、仙女の『西王母』（セイオウボ）が住むと云われる西方楽土となっている。
このツバキは花芯部にある花弁が固く抱き合った宝珠咲に始まり、花の終わり前に八重咲へと変化するその咲型も美しく、上質な黒花弁のその色の重厚さとシルクタッチの肉厚な花弁は、光や角度によって、花色が変化してく様は、高貴、神秘なイメージを持つ事から『崑崙黒』と名付けられた。
ベルベット生地にも例えられる上品な花弁の質感ダークルージュの落ち着いたカラーリングと魅力に溢れるツバキである。
Konronkoku (崑崙黒)
An evergreen shrub of the order Ericales, family
Theaceae, and genus Camellia.
This camellia is characterized by a very deep
reddish-black or crimson-black hue to its flowers,
and it is classified as a “black camellia.” Among
the black camellia varieties, it is known among
enthusiasts as a rare species that possesses
both elegance and mystery.
The name “Konron” is derived from Kunlun
Mountain (Konronzan), a sacred mountain
appearing in Chinese mythology that connects
to the heavenly realm. It is said to be a divine
land where immortals reside and is also believed
to be the Western Paradise where the celestial
goddess Xi Wangmu lives.
This camellia begins with a “hōju-zaki” (jewel-like
bloom), in which the inner petals are tightly
clustered together like a treasure bead, and as
it matures, it gradually transforms into a
multi-layered double bloom. The transition in
blooming style is itself beautiful. Its richly
pigmented, thick petals with a silky touch create
a flower whose color seems to shift with light
and angle, evoking a noble and mysterious
aura—hence the name Konronkoku.
The texture of the petals, often compared to
velvet fabric, and the calm, dark rouge coloration
contribute to the refined charm and elegance
of this captivating camellia.
