胡蝶侘助 （コチョウワビスケ）

ツツジ目、ツバキ科、ツバキ属の常緑低木

『侘助』（ワビスケ）のこの名は、茶道における美学
とされる『侘び寂び』に由来し、その控えめであり
簡素で質素な美しさを象徴するツバキ。特に江戸
時代に茶人たちの間で広まった品種となる。


『侘び寂び』の茶道美学は千利休（センノリキュウ）
により大成され、茶道の根本思想として日本文化
に大きな影響を与えたもの。


『侘び』は『簡素と静寂』、『寂び』は『古びた美』
を意味し、この二つを組み合わせることによって
自然でありながら深い美しさを追求したもの。

利休の茶室や茶道具は、質素でありながら上品で
かつ、心の静寂を求める空間や趣きが特徴となる。


『侘助椿』が醸し出す美の世界は、特に控えめな
美しさと品のある佇まいとが評価され、茶室の花
として愛されているもの。その中でも胡蝶侘助は
蝶の如き優雅な花姿と、紅に白が添えられた花弁
が特徴で、この花の控えめな美しさこそが千利休
の『侘び寂び』の精神と通じるものと愛される。

The name Wabisuke (侘助) originates from Wabi-Sabi, an aesthetic concept in the Japanese tea ceremony, embodying simplicity, humility, and understated beauty. Wabisuke camellias, in particular, became widely appreciated among tea masters during the Edo period.


The Wabi-Sabi philosophy of the tea ceremony was perfected by Sen no Rikyū (千利休) and became a fundamental idea in Japanese culture.
Wabi (侘び) represents “simplicity and tranquility.”
Sabi (寂び) signifies “the beauty of aging and imperfection.”
By combining these two principles, Wabi-Sabi
（侘び寂び）seeks a natural yet profound beauty.


Rikyū’s tea rooms and utensils were characterized by their simplicity, refinement, and an atmosphere that fosters inner peace.


The beauty of Wabisuke camellias is highly valued for their modest elegance and refined presence, making them beloved flowers in the tea room. Among them, Kochō Wabisuke is distinguished by its graceful, butterfly-like flower form and petals tinged with red and white. Its delicate beauty embodies the very essence of Wabi-Sabi, cherished in the spirit of Sen no Rikyū.
