お皿越しのアメリカ暮らし #2「次男との小旅行 ─ 春のDavisへ」①

次男の春休み。Amtrak という長距離列車に乗り、ふたりで長女に会いに行きました。
My younger son’s spring break was here, so the two of us hopped on an Amtrak and went to see his older sister.
電車の中で軽い朝食。私は前日に Trader Joe’s で買っておいた Spring Rolls with Tofu. 豆腐の生春巻きというところでしょうか？カシューソース付きです。
We had a light breakfast on the train. I’d picked up some Trader Joe’s Spring Rolls with Tofu the day before; they came with a cashew dipping sauce.
列車は進むほどにどんどん遅れていくのが笑えます。これがもし日本だったら大騒ぎになるのでしょうね。12時までに着けばいいわ〜とこちらものんびりかまえます。私は娘をハグできればそれだけで幸せだから。
The farther we went, the more the train fell behind schedule. That’d make headlines in Japan, but here it’s just part of the adventure. I figured, “As long as we get there by noon, we’re good.” All I wanted was a hug from my daughter.
娘が駅まで車で迎えに来てくれました。お昼ごはんは、平日しか開いていないという人気のカフェテリア（アメリカ英語だと Dining Commons と言います）で。
She picked us up at the station, and we grabbed lunch at a popular dining commons on campus. This one is only open on weekdays.
期待以上のお味で大満足。これはもうレストランです！最近の大学生は本当に恵まれてますね。羨ましい限りです。
The food was way better than I expected—honestly, it tasted like it came from a fancy restaurant! College kids today are seriously spoiled, and I’m a little jealous.
