88歳おじいちゃんの渡米記🇺🇸あとがき2006「思い出は永遠に」
２００６年１０月３０日、祖父がアメリカでの素晴らしい思い出と共に旅立ちました。９９歳でした。
On October 30th, 2006, my grandfather departed this world, taking with him cherished memories of his time in America. He was 99 years old.
アメリカ旅行後から今年までの11年の間に、120通以上の手紙が祖父から届きました。それらの一通一通の中で祖父はアメリカ旅行のことに触れ、感謝の言葉を書いてくれました。
From the time he visited America until this year—a span of 11 years—
Grandpa sent me over 120 letters. In each letter, he would always mention his trip to America and express his gratitude.
父がこんなことを話してくれました。アメリカ旅行のホームビデオを、祖父が三回も完全に擦り切れて再生不可能になるまでくり返し観たので、どの場面で誰が何を言うのかをすっかり暗記してしまったそうです。父と祖父が交わした最後の会話の中でも、祖父はどれだけアメリカ旅行が楽しかったかを語ったそうです。
My father once shared with me that Grandpa watched the home video from his American visit over and over—so many times, in fact, that he wore out three copies until they became completely unplayable. He had memorized exactly who said what and in which scenes. Even in their final conversation, Grandpa spoke passionately about how much he had enjoyed his trip.
８月に届いた祖父からの最後の手紙にも、こう書かれていました。
八十八才の時史子に招んで貰ったカリフォルニア
思出わすれることは出来ません
改めてお礼申上げます
In the last letter Grandpa sent me in August, he wrote:
I will never forget my memories of California,
where I was invited by Ayako at the age of 88.
Once again, thank you so very much.
祖父の旅行が素晴らしいものになるように準備してくださった方々、決して忘れることのない夢のような時間を私たちと共に過ごしてくださった方々、
祖父と私の心の中に永遠に生き続ける思い出作りに協力してくださったすべての方々に、もう一度心から感謝致します。
本当に、本当にありがとうございました。
