FOX35Orlando.com reported that on November 3, authorities had received a report about a homeless cat, described as “a neighborhood cat,” who had been shot. According to the report, “A concerned citizen called and said they thought their neighbor just shot a cat and had [captured] some of the alleged shooting on their front door camera. The cat ran away. Neighbors started searching for him for weeks, but couldn’t find him.” The cat was eventually found on November 22, “injured and with an infection from the gunshot wound. Bullet fragments were found in his leg. Vets had to amputate the cat’s leg, but he survived.” A suspect was arrested and allegedly told authorities that the cat had been damaging his vehicle. He was charged with cruelty to animals “and unlawful discharge of a firearm.”

One of the people who was bitten did not have health insurance and was billed $21,000 for needed post-exposure rabies treatment. She said, “It took hours to figure out where to take the cat, and the only option was an hour away and behead [the animal] yourself.”

The attack was captured on surveillance footage. A neighbor said that his cat, who was also allowed to roam outdoors without supervision, had returned home with a broken leg. The animal was taken to a veterinary hospital, where a veterinarian allegedly “confirmed his cat had likely [also] been attacked” by a dog. When authorities were contacted, they reportedly said it was a civil matter.
