Plague kills cat near Evergreen, first confirmed case in Jeffco since 2023

デンバー（KDVR）— ジェファーソン郡公衆衛生局によると、飼い猫がペストに感染し死亡した。
DENVER (KDVR) — A domestic cat is dead after it contracted plague, according to Jefferson County Public Health.

猫はカブ・クリーク公園近くのエバーグリーンで発見され、2023年以来ジェファーソン郡で確認された初のペスト感染例と目されている。同局によると、猫はペストで命を落としたという。
The cat was located in Evergreen near Cub Creek Park, and is being hailed as the first confirmed plague case in Jefferson County since 2023. The agency said the cat did not survive the disease.

“It’s not uncommon to see a few animal cases of plague in the warmer months in Colorado,” said Jim Rada, Jefferson County Environmental Health Director.

Jefferson County Public Health explained that plague is a disease caused by bacteria and is often spread to humans and pets through flea bites or direct contact with infected animals.

The health department said that human cases of plague are rare and can be life-threatening if not treated. Early, effective treatment includes antibiotics.
