Hello.
In this note, I like to write about the little, ordinary things that make up my days.
Today’s topic is our breakfast.
***
At our house, breakfast is pretty much the same every day.
Weekdays, weekends—it doesn't really matter. We've been doing it this way for over ten years now.
It started not long after we got married. I gradually took on the role of making breakfast, and somehow, even now—with our child already in sixth grade—the rhythm remains unchanged.
It’s become a part of our mornings, woven in quietly.
First, I toast two slices of thick-cut bread—stacked one on top of the other.
The outside gets crisp, the inside stays soft. It turns into something like a hot sandwich, quick and unexpectedly delicious.
Our usual filling? Ham, cheese, and a sunny-side-up egg.
Sometimes we toss in some lettuce or mizuna, depending on the mood. A dab of mayo and ketchup makes it taste surprisingly like a premium burger—honestly, sometimes it feels like we’ve outdone the fast-food chains.
We split the sandwich three ways, since there are three of us. It used to be that our kid’s share was the smallest, but now—being a growing sixth grader—it’s the biggest.
Funny how food can make you realize how much your child has grown.

Even though it’s the “same” breakfast every day, it’s not exactly the same.
Sometimes we switch it up with egg salad or potato salad from the convenience store. On slower mornings, we might even cook up some sausages and go for a hot dog-style version.
Without even noticing, a quiet variety has taken root.
And because just bread isn’t quite enough, we add cereal.
One spoonful each of Kellogg’s brown rice flakes and All-Bran. Our golden ratio.
Then, a dollop of plain yogurt, a sprinkle of roasted soy flour, a drizzle of honey.
Top it off with unsweetened soy milk and mix it all together. Somehow, we never get tired of it.
We add fruits depending on the season—bananas, blueberries, kiwi, strawberries.
Sometimes we find discounted pineapple chunks at the supermarket and throw those in.
Just a bit of fruit makes the morning feel brighter, more colorful.

In reality, we slice the sandwich into three."
Finally, a cup of coffee from the Nespresso machine—and breakfast is ready.
With everything we need in one spot, it takes just 10 minutes for the three of us. Amazing what habit can do.

I’m sure every household has its own kind of morning.
This is ours. And it’ll probably stay this way, as long as no one complains and everyone keeps eating with a smile.
Today’s Reflection
Even when you think you're just repeating the same breakfast every day, little things evolve. The ingredients, the routine, the way you prepare it.
And the ones eating it—your family—are quietly growing and changing, too.
There’s something both strange and beautiful about being able to feel the slow, certain flow of everyday life through a simple morning meal.
In more ways than one, breakfast really matters.
