| Review: protein pancakes |
[05 Mar 2011|07:43am] |
The first one I tried was Tri-O-Plex's. It was ok. A little on the sweet side, but considering there was no syrup, ok. The other brand was Met-RX. Those were NASTY. They had a very chemically taste to them.
Tri-O-Plex:4 udjats (I'm honestly considering buying the mix) Met-RX: 1 udjat ( run away if offered a sample)
(out of 5 possible)

Question for the vegetarians in the room...
Do you miss meat? How hard was it to give up meat? How hard was it to change you diet to still receive the protein you need?
I'm mostly looking at it from an ethical standpoint, but that is not the focus of the question. (It's damned hard to find a company that will grow and process animals that aren't extremely cruel about it.) However, I'm looking at losing weight and adding muscle, and so I am going to want to maintain a high level of protein-to-fat ratio.
This may just involve severely limiting meat intake to companies and places I know can treat their animals correctly.

| Caffeine Dependence |
[21 Aug 2007|08:47am] |
Probably the first in a series of health-related posts, since that is what I'm feeling I should do with my life.
* * *
The over-use of caffeine is bad for you, and it's really easy to over-use.
There, I've said it. And here is a John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center's report and Psychiatric Times article to agree with me. Please note the line about "...caffeine-induced sleep disorder" in the Psychiatric Times.
It's also important to note that caffeine alter a person's mood or behavior can be seen in as little caffeine as 100mg. That's 15mg less then is in a Tall (the smallest size) Starbucks Café Au Lait. The US average of caffeine consumption is 280mg/day, according to a different John Hopkins study.
Yes, this is from a person who used to drink 96oz of Mountain Dew in an eight hour work shift. I feel loads better now that I'm not drinking caffeine then I ever did while I was drinking it.

| Nutricide - Criminalizing Natural Health, Vitamins, and Herbs |
[27 May 2007|07:12pm] |
The Codex Alimentarius is a threat to the freedom of people to choose natural healing and alternative medicine and nutrition. Ratified by the World Health Organization, and going into Law in the United States in 2009, the threat to health freedom has never been greater.
This is the first part of a series of talks by Dr. Rima Laibow MD, available on DVD from the Natural Solutions Foundation, an non-profit organization dedicated to educating people about how to stop Codex Alimentarius from taking away our right to freely choose nutritional health.
I greatly urge you to watch this and pass it along to every online community and forum that emphasizes on the importance of Natural Health. This affects every single one of us. Please feel free to do your part in raising awareness on this vital topic. Thank you.

Hello! I just joined and was wondering what people's opinions on vitamin supplements? I just bought some from this site because I've tried just about everything else BUT vitamins to take care of various problems I have with my body. But I'm doubtful as to whether I'll actually see any results from taking vitamins so I was wondering what other people's experiences were with them.
Also, has anyone tried the SoyJoy bars? I was thinking of requesting free samples from their site but wondered if anyone else had tried them already and what was thought about them? Answers are much appreciated - thanks in advance! =)

| Personal Training |
[20 Apr 2007|07:55am] |
Hi.
My name is Sarah, I've been a member of this community for a while, and I'm also a Certified Personal Trainer through NASM. I train people in the gym and at their homes, but I'm now trying to start a new business venture.. Online training. I will be starting up my own website in a few months which will be geared towards creating very individualized plans in both nutrition and workouts to reach whatever goal you may have. I will have many options for plans and prices, however I'd like to get a few people started early (at EXTREEMLY discounted rates) so by the time my website is up I can have a section of "testimonies" and "successes". I dont want to get into any details right now (only because I don't want to clog up people's Friends pages) but if anyone is interested in my services PLEASE reply and I will contact you! I will charge only $10 per plan per month for the clients (through paypal), when regularly I will be charging $50 and up depending on plans. Each plan will be very detailed. This is a great oppertunity, so if you're intrested, comment and I'll get more info to you. Thanks!
(Mods: If this isn't allowed please let me know and I'll take it down!)

Does anyone know anything about...or believe in..eating right for your blood type? I have heard about it and read some information about the different foods one should consume and avoid based on his/her blood type.... I am curious to know what others think of this?

| Balancing the Salt Intake |

A few months back, I started an exercise program and tried to modify my diet, since I tend to have trouble with portions. While tracking my meals on an online log, I found that I was ingesting up 6,000 milligrams of sodium per day (or more), and this was through eating the Healthy Choice and Lean Cuisine dinners that I normally had for lunch and dinner throughout the week. I don't even use much salt on my food. At any rate, I started making my own meals, eating the usual stuff I normally do, but cutting out the salt and using other spices to give it flavor, and I did manage to lose some weight. However, I started experiencing splitting headaches. After eliminating the usual suspects, I did some research and found that too little salt can also cause some health problems. Well, as with anything else, the dire warnings about fats, cholesterol and all the rest should be taken with a grain of ..... never mind.

| My Project |
[31 Oct 2006|04:58pm] |
This is my mid-quarter project for my nutrition class and it is reeeaally long. It's seriously the longest post I've ever made. I don't expect anyone to read it, but I figured I'd post it. Just in case. :-)
( My ProjectCollapse )
I'm the type of person that I would honestly welcome people punching holes in this. If I was truly on my game I would have finished this a week ago and posted it. It's too late to make any changes now, but I'll know for the next project.

Do anyone have an recommendations for in-depth books or resources about nutrition?
I know the basics, but I want to know the actual science behind nutrition. How it interacts with your body, muscles, the whole nine yards. :-)
Thanks!

The idea of an exchange diet was recently suggested to me and I was wondering if anyone here has had any experiances, good or bad, with them or know of someone who has?

Odd question: Can bananas be frozen and still taste good? How about strawberries?
I never go through them before they go south, but I want to keep them in the house for smoothies.
