Donburi-Ya Review
Name: Donburi-Ya
Type: Japanese (cooked, hybrid sake bar)
Location: 137 East 47th Street
Price Range: varies

Review:

Very good little place in the "japanese businessman" section of town. Great rice balls and over rice dishes. They have noodle dishes, but usually it's not cold enough outside for me to order them. They have lots of little sides that one can order to add to the meal. Recently they have expanded their menu, adding quite a bit. Male patrons will quickly notice the surplus of attractive waitstaff (it is in the "japanese businessman" area after all).

Sato review
Name: Sato (flash site)
Location: Queens Blvd. just off 98 street
Price Range: Mid-high ($35 per person average)

Review:

What I ordered was shioyaki shishamo, the beef teriyaki bento, 2 pieces O-Toro sashimi, and one piece Sea urchin sushi. I give really high marks for quality. They get a few bonus points for asking me how I wanted the beef cooked, and even more for bringing me the beef as rare as I asked for. The O-toro was excellent quality as was Uni, though the price matched the quality. Service was good and quite polite. The only thing that would keep me from coming back too regularly is the price (the total of everything above after tax and tip was about $60). I strongly recommend this place to anyone wanting to try high quality japanese food without having to go into manhattan for it.

Sushi-O
Location: Austin Street (somewhere between Natural & Coldstone)
Personal Rating: 7.75 (10 being the best, 1 being worst)
Average price: $6.95

This is one of those places you go to when you want good sushi for a good price. The bulk of the staff is Korean. It's kind of on the small side (seats no more than about 20 people). Their specialty rolls are to die for. Their menu contains little else other than sushi though, so only go their for sushi.

Ethiopian Food
I checked out a very good restaurant over the weekend.

The name of the place is Awash, and it's on East 6th Street. They have another restaurant on the Upper West Side, which goes by the same name.

For those who are squeamish, (I hope not..I'm not!!!) just to let you know that Ethiopian food is made to eat with the hands, they don't give out utensils.

Since this was my first time trying this cuisine, I decided to order the combo entree, which involves two meat dishes, and three vegetable dishes of your choice. That way you can rule out what you like or don't like. They don't give full orders of these entrees on the combo, but they give you sampler portions of everything, which in the long run would amount to a full-sized entree.

They present the food on one big giant piece of bread that is reminiscent to a pancake which covers the plate. This pancake is made with wheat and is somewhat moist and spongy. They give you a side order of the same pancakes, all rolled up and you break off pieces of this pancake and grab the food with it, and eat. The pancake serves as your eating utensil, and the food is of a somewhat stew-like consistency, which means you eat both food and bread at the same time.

The food was delicious. This style of cooking involves many different spices and the flavors of the foods themselves would range from spicy sweetness, to spicy sour. One of the veggie entrees was downright sour, so I know not to order that one the next time around, the meat entrees were good.
