Uncertain future for meets.
Yet another attempt has failed, I've started to wonder if starting planned meets was a good idea in the first place.
*Out of about 5 or 6 attempts, we have only had anything resembling a meet once.
*Our schedules are incompatible.
*Our membership is scattered across the state, with only three in this area; supposedly there was a fourth, I never heard from him.
*Communications between members are poor, I posted a date for a meet about 9 days in advance and I was getting complaints that I hadn't given enough notice.
*There is very little to do at these meets anyway.
*There isn't much chance of increasing attendance.
*Moving the meets to an area with more furs is, unfortunately, not an option (otherwise I would).
*I have become the hub of all communication and organization, and I won't be here after January 17th.
I am very deeply sorry, but given the state of things I can't see PalmettoFurs surviving into 2005. This is hard for me, I don't want to give up, but things are moving in that direction. At least we know we're not the only ones, but we're still too few in number and too limited in means to keep this thing going.

Meet postponed.
I just spoke to Binxie... The meet will have to wait until next weekend at least. It's tentatively for Sunday after next (Nov. 14th), same time, same place. If there are any problems or suggestions, please post here!

OK, I've got my car roadworthy again, I still don't have much money and can't go far until the new engine breaks in, but how about we try one more time to make it to Fox's Pizza Den at 12:30 Saturday?

Can't make Saturday...
Yesterday my "daily driver" Chevy Corsica gave up the ghost out on a narrow country highway. I may have spun a bearing, they still haven't looked at it yet, but I'm pretty sure I may have lost it.
I wasn't overly attached to the car itself because I expected it to die eventually, but without it I'm unable to continue looking for work, or meet up with friends for that matter.
That means I can't make it to any meets for a while. :(

Meet Status...
I probably can't make it to a meet Saturday. You're all welcome to meet without me, but I'm in too much of a bind to really do anything.
I don't know when I'll have the time to have a meet again, last Saturday was the only day that might have worked, and I'm still trying to get work so I can afford something better.
This happens, every time I try to start something, I end up not having the resources to go through with it. People bitch at me all the time about how I try to come up with reasons why I can't do things and don't just go out and do them, but heaven forbid I should have any confidence in myself and actually try to do something! This always happens! This is the reason I've been made persona non grata on ArtVark.us, a site I HELPED FOUND, it was because I'm too pathetic to do anything, I tried but I lacked the design, IT, and organizational skills to contribute anything to the project, and someone else ended up doing all the work to keep it alive, so what am I to them? They don't need me.
I shouldn't start things I can't finish, I guess that means I should just not start things at all. It's all my fault for actually believing in myself.

Slight Change of Plans

First, I'd like to welcome Beoweasel. I don't know when we'll be able to have a meet up in Spartanburg, but if enough furs near you join the group maybe you can work out an Upstate meet.

Second, on the Myrtle Beach meet, a slight change of plans. We will now be meeting at Fox's Pizza Den on Highway 544 (there's a map right here, it's actually for Sonic but the Den is within sight of Sonic) at 12:30 due to the problems with traffic on the main thoroughfares (it turns out the meet coincides with the Fall bike rally, my fault).  I don't know what we'll do from there, I guess we could get pizza there and go straight to my house (I know we wanted Papa John's, but I'm really having to half-ass this, I completely forgot about the rally).  If everyone would rather wait on having a meet (even if it's just until Sunday) just let me know.

Also, alternative suggestions for meet sites will be greatly appreciated!

If there are any problems getting there, just let me know.  I think both Binxie and Milenko have my cellular phone number.

Saturday
OK, the meets on for Saturday!
We'll meet up the same place as before, see if we can find something to do, then later Milenko has offered to rent Ghost in the Shell, so we can come to my place and watch that and Kaze: Ghost Warrior. We can even chip in and get pizza.

Tentative meet date
OK, for the time being, the next meet will be on the first saturday in October; I still don't have a job, though, and I have a lot going on with applying for loans for the spring semester, so it may have to be the second saturday in october.
I'm hoping to do at least some of the things I mentioned as a possible schedule, we'll have to see how things work out.
Sorry I couldn't be a bit more reliable. I'm really on shaky ground financially, so much as a movie ticket could upset things.

Also, this coming Saturday I will be at a car show at the Darlington Dragway with one of my cars, if anyone wants to drop by and say hi. It won't be hard to spot, it will be a sleek, blue boat-tailed roadster with a British plate on the front that says 'VLPCULA.' :)

Down Time
Okay, here's the deal:
I'm having to pour a lot of time and energy into securing a job right now, and part of that means less time online and going to bed at a civilized hour (I'm not sure which of these I hate more). Plus, I believe I may have a mild infection, and I feel a little feverish, so I need to rest when I can.
For the next week or so, my time online will be minimal, I will try to stay on top of e-mails but things like this journal, ICQ, and even the local furmeets will have to take a back seat. I'll be posting a copy of this to Palmettofurs so everyone knows why I'm hard to reach.
This is probably a temporary situation; I'm in the middle of changing my schedule to include work, and since I don't know where I'll be working yet, everything else is a wild card. Once I get settled into a routine, I'll be easier to reach.
Thanks to all my friends, and I'll be back to you ASAP.

Ok, here's the deal. I may easily be the youngest fur around, so as a result of certain...legal problems *throws his learner's permit at you* I will be unable to attend any meets for a lil while. HOWEVER, if ye would happen to come a bit further south, say to Charleston, I can meetcha!

Informal meet
Okay, here's the deal:
I wanted to have a full-fledged, five or six hour meet soon, though as it stands, due to uncertainty about jobs, I can't organize one.
BUT...
Because of the surprising response, I don't want to keep you all waiting to meet one another, so I propose a compromise.

We would have a small mini-meet at the new mall in Myrtle Beach (the one that was going to be the Mall of the Carolinas, I forget its current name; the one near the airport).
We could all sit someplace like the food court, get to know one another, possibly go in a couple of stores, and generally break the ice before we move on to bigger meets.

We could do this on one of several dates:
Friday, Sept. 3 at 1:00 PM
Saturday, Sept. 4 at 11:30 AM
Sunday, Sept. 5 at Noon.

I want to do this at the best time for everyone who can come, so everyone please post the best time for you, and we'll decide based on when the most furs can make it.
If nothing else, we can delay it a week; however, that Saturday may not be a good day to start out on; out of respect and remembrance I think it would be bad taste to have our first meet on the 11th.

It is still on the drawing board and really up to all you fuzzy creatures but Threetails seemed to love the idea when I presented it to him, so yay or neigh :)

A proposed itenerary

I still don't have a positive date for when this is viable, there are a few things that need to pan out before this would work, but this is my proposal for the first meet:

(all events in Myrtle Beach area)

12:00 PM: Meet up at either River City Cafe, Dirty Don's Oyster Bar, or Ultimate California Pizza for lunch.

1:00 PM: Spend a little time on the beach (other suggestions welcome, but the beach is close to all three suggested restaurants).

3:00 PM: spend some time at either Broadway at the Beach or the new Mall.

5:00 PM: Dinner at your choice of hundreds of restaurants. 

6:00 PM: Karaoke at Broadway Louie's

9:00 PM: Either see a regular film at the Broadway Cinema, an IMAX film, or a small double-feature screening at my house of "Kaze: Ghost Warrior" and "The Castle of Cagliostro." (we have other films too).

This last item will depend on whether or not Dad is in town; He wouldn't mind if I had friends over, but he's a light sleeper and you DON'T want to see him when he's been woken up.

Anything on this that someone doesn't like can easily be changed. For example, we could all meet up after lunch time so that everyone will have eaten one meal already.

Also, the times aren't set in stone; if the mall gets old, we can all go on to dinner.

Once all the locations have been agreed on, I will make up maps for everyone marking each place.

Bring plenty of money, as much as I'd like to (that's not sarcasm, it's true), I can't pay for everyone's meals, tickets, and the like.  Keep that in mind.

One more thing to bear in mind: Some of us (like me) are under 21, so there are limits to where we can go as a group.  After a certain time of day, Broadway Louie's is strictly 21+, which is why the extra movie option was added. 

Any ideas? Suggestions? Comments? Other things you'd like to see? A different itenerary altogether?

Palmetto Furs is officially open!
Here we can discuss possible dates, locations, and activities for meets, and hopefully we'll have them at least on a monthly basis once we get started. Get your furry fix!
Only a few simple rules:

1. We prefer that you're from either North or South Carolina, specifically the coastal regions, though if you're from further afield, we don't mind, especially if you'd be willing to meet up with us in some place like Charleston or Myrtle Beach!

2. No idea is stupid. If you have a halfway viable idea for a meet, post it! You may be surprised by how well it works out.

3. Be nice! Don't go spreading rumors, bad-mouthing, bashing, flaming, or otherwise being unpleasant; Tolerance will be met with open arms, intolerance will only be met with intolerance. That means no "But he's a zoo!" or "I heard he's only in it for the yiffing," we meet up with enough judgement from outside the Fandom, don't bring it in.

4. No Spamming! Any plugs for your cousin's debt consolidation scam, ads soliciting porn, sex, singles, or chat sites (ESPECIALLY non-furry), any "special offers" or "important news" or "latest offers" on bootleg software and the like, and generally anything that is all about promoting business and not about getting to know the community WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. If you're a regular member and you make a passing mention about your car or other neat stuff for sale or trade, don't be too worried. It's the spammers who need to look out. I KNOW SPAM WHEN I SEE IT, IT WILL BE DELETED AND THE SPAMMER'S MEMBERSHIP TERMINATED!

5. This is an all-ages group. Don't post 18+ material directly to the group, try not to post too many 18+ links, and if you do post links to this material, make sure you put a warning! If you make a mistake, you will be warned, if you do it twice, you'll be out of the group for a month, the third time you'll be permanently banned. I want a group where anyone who is too young or just doesn't want to see something adult-themed will have fair warning before hand.

6. Keep it legal. I could go to prison for not reporting any illegal material on this group, so I will report it. That's anything that I believe to be a sign of immenent or continuing harm, according to my discretion. I won't go off on you for figures of speech (as in "I'd like to ring his neck!"), but specific threats of violence ("we attack the factory at noon.") will be reported. Also, I DO NOT support child pornography or any other sexual acts with those under the age of consent, this will be reported on sight. I will also ask other members to alert me to any illegal material on this group I may not be aware of.

So yeah, just covering all the legal yip-yap. I'm no Nazi, just keep it civil and legal and there's no problem!
