Grimm and Once Upon A Time are both better than any of the earlier premieres. Weird! Also, OUAT has Count Fersen, who is hoooooot.

It's eight in the morning and I'm INCREDIBLY EXCITED by the prospect of going to school and MAKING BUDGETS and PLAYING WITH EXCEL just like I did all day yesterday.

I think I've made the right choice. I want to be an accountant when I grow up.

Since apparently I'm in a posting-happy mood (for once), I'll jot down my brief impressions of other stuff I've watched this season. ( really harsh opinionsCollapse )

I ... I know it's horrible, but I'm thinking about watching Glee because people are saying it had storylines about Mercedes and Mike Chang. I didn't expect to see the day.

That's like the worst confession you could make in fandom right now.

The thing is, I always liked Ryan Murphy, since those days back in HS when I'd watch new episodes of Popular every weekend and laugh my ass off while also caring about all the characters. It was OTT and crazy and in a lot of ways inconsistent, sure, but it was also fun and had so many great moments and great characters that I adored, and I own both seasons on DVD.

Obviously the second season of Glee was inconsistent like hell, deeply offensive, and plain bad, but I can't deny that back when the show premiered, what made me excited about it was that Ryan Murphy was back making an OTT HS comedy/drama, just like Popular. And no one can deny that for those first 10 episodes or so, pretty much everyone was excited about the show even despite its visible flaws.

What I'm trying to say is that I liked American Horror Story. I'm not saying it was a ground-breaking hour of stellar TV; it was too cliche to ever be great and it's way too derivative of Kubrick's version of The Shining anyway (right down to the creepy twins and the music). But for some reason, it's literally the only new show this season that's making me think about it even the day after watching it, and looking forward to the next episode. The only one. The main characters are neurotic and unlikable (especially the husband. Oh my fucking god that husband), the ghosts are OTT quirky (but, well, they're probably decades-old ghosts, so what do you expect?), and the shock effects are obvious and too in-your-face to be truly scary, but there's just something about it! I think it's mostly the wife and the housekeeper and the crazy neighbor. I kind of adore them, and I want them to have loads of scenes together, even though I sort of suspect it's more that I want those actresses (love them all) to share more scenes. And I want to see that husband diiiiiiiie, and I'm curious to see just how much fucked up shit that daughter is going to get herself into. And not gonna lie, I want to know if my suspicions are true that Addy is the only one alive out of all those people, anyway.

So: easily my favorite new show this season. Although that's not too hard, since I thought everything else sucked. And I'm about 87% convinced that the rest of the episodes will become even more uneven and inconsistent and make me rage. But hey, for now I'm enjoying it!

P.S. Oh god, this banana bread I made yesterday. Oh god. Starting to cook and bake was the best decision I ever made.

I've been doing crafts lately, specifically sewing and a bit of paper crafts, and I've rediscovered (after years of forgetting) that I'm the happiest when I'm making things with my hands.

So I want to make stuff. Specifically paper stuff, because I already have plenty of things I want to sew (done already: e-book cover, pen pouch, iPod shuffle sleeve, bunny pin cushion; next up: Macbook sleeve, book cover, box pouch, pillow), and preferably stuff with those little bits of fanart I enjoy doing. So. Any thoughts?



Keep in mind, I might not get around to actually doing it. I'm starting a three-month course on Monday that seems pretty intensive. But right now I just love playing with ideas and with fabric and paper; I even dreamed about it this morning. Any input appreciated!

In other TV news: I mainlined season 1 of Make It or Break It, that ABC FAMILY show about TEENAGE GYMNASTS who have OVER-THE-TOP ROMANTIC DWAMA, and it was awesome. I've been trying to deny it, because they canceled Middleman and Huge (and also my guilty pleasure 10 Things I Hate About You), but I have to accept it: ABC Family seems to own my soul. All the girls and their mothers are awesome, except Emily who is boring, and when I finally decided to fast-forward over her repetitive and dragged-out romance subplot I was so damn relieved. But Payson! And her parents! And Emily's mom! I am in love! ABC Family always seems to manage to make characters multifaceted but simultaneously so endearing. I wish other networks would learn that trick, especially for their sci-fi shows *cough*Falling Skies*cough*

Although the DWAMA did become a bit too over-the-top towards the end of season 1 (something goes wrong! something else also goes wrong! AND NOW EVERYTHING GOES WRONG! dwamatic music!), so I'll be taking a break before starting season 2. I really wish they'd get rid of the Lauren/Carter/Kaylie love triangle plot they've been dragging on since the pilot, mostly because I just don't care about Carter. And neither do I care about any of Emily's romantic interests, they're all boring losers. Sorry, Emily. Emily should rather hook up with Payson, maybe some of her awesome will rub off.

Other TV: I haven't watched the last 2? 3? episodes of White Collar, woe. Even though I like this season much more than the last two, I guess it's just ... not ... top priority for me? Except Bomer is pretty? And I got my Marsha Thomason fix from Make It or Break It, so.

I'm excited about 2x06 and 2x08 of Covert Affairs (Jai! More Raye! JOAN!), while I'm dreading 2x07 (Auggie backstory). Will this show manage to make me care even less about Auggie this season? Is that even physically possible? I do believe it is, since I fully expect him to be an annoying smug dudebro professional soldier! Dread.

Switched at Birth is still really good. Nothing new under the sun. And seeing all the actors tweeting about going back to work, I'm ... I'm considering watching season 7 of Criminal Minds when it comes back. I don't really expect the writing to get better, but AJ out in the field! Paget is back! I'm ... I'm so tempted.

I haven't watched any of the recent USA pilots, because I vowed to stop watching boring shows just because I have nothing better to do, and I'm so proud of myself. Of course what I've been doing instead is read fic on my ebook reader, but it's still an improvement!

P.S. After taking a brief look at Make It or Break It fandom, it's clear to me I can't join it. The most popular ship is Payson/Sasha. Payson is sixteen and Sasha is her coach.
