I ran in an 8k race saturday. Hoshit man, that was tiring, and for the following reasons:
+I did not run/practice/prepare for it in any way, shape, or form. I got called the night before by a friend to go +I am a sprinter +It wasn't on a track, so I couldn't keep track of my progress until I hit a mile marker +Plenty of old people passed me/finished before me, including an 81 year old man.
But the fact that I actually got out there and ran it, having never ran more than 2 miles nonstop before, and I finished under an hour, makes me happy.
Oh, I'm now at 42% on my progress thingy. Figured I'd share |

| [ | mood |
| | hopeful | ] | I set up my account on the Presidential Fitness Award website about 5 minutes ago and I'm excited to be doing this. I won the Presidential Fitness Award when I was in 5th grade for Jazzercise and Rope Jumping. (That was a very, very long time ago.)
I'm trying to lose some weight I gained when I moved from Florida to Missouri this past November. (Being in a true winter for the first time in ten years kept me lazy and indoors.) Also, the general transition of picking up and moving to a completely new place made me a little depressed, so that added on some pounds, too. Working toward the award is a good goal and the website keeps my acitivities organized. I started a food journal a month and a half ago and I log my exercise in there, too. I'm online so often that I may as well log all that information there, too.
My main forms of exercise are: work-out DVDs (aerobics, Pilates, and yoga) and walking. I try to fit in some sit-ups everyday, too. I'm a new Denise Austin fan. Her enthusiasm is insanely high, but the woman knows fitness!
I just wanted to introduce myself to the group. I hope we can all be sources of support and advice for everyone. |

| [ | mood |
| | sleepy | ] | Hey everyone. I discovered the Presidential Challenge about a year ago but didn't really update my progress in a timely manner. I'm 22 years old, just graduated from college, and have a ton of time on my hands now that I'm just sitting around job searching. So I thought I'd try to get back to it.
I've never been a fan of exercise, especially in grade school/high school, but I'm now sort of getting into it (or at least, doing it more regularly, even if I don't always enjoy it) mostly because of my parents. My dad's doctor told him a year and a half ago that he needs to exercise regularly to reduce his cholesterol levels, and so he started working out. And then after he reduced his bad cholesterol more than his doctor had ever seen any of his patients do, my dad became concerned about the rest of us, since we've got a strong history of heart disease and bad cholesterol on all sides of the family. He pulled my mom into it, then my brother, then me. He's still working on my sister, though (she has pretty much proven herself immune, and I personally have given up hope). Anyway, so I'm mainly interested in this challenge for the health benefits, although I wouldn't mind losing a couple pounds as well.
P.S. I was wondering, would anyone be interested in making a group on the challenge website for this LJ group? I don't have a group on the website but I know you can register one, and I thought that might be a good motivation for some of us as well...just a thought. |

I made what I believe is an interesting list for those of us who are doing the Presidential Champions Program and the Advanced Performance Presidential Champions Program. Basically, it's a list of how many points you can earn during one five minute session of each activity, organized by lowest points value to highest: ( Activity Points Per Five MinutesCollapse )
Looking over the list of activities, I was struck by how many I would like to try and how many I haven't even heard of. Take Wallyball for instance. What the heck is Wallyball? Maybe Wallyball is my calling and I'm going to go on to become a world-class Wallyball player. Okay, maybe not, but it would be something fun to try at least.
Also, I was struck by just how fast I could earn points if I did some vigorous Scuba Diving. Unfortunately, for now since I don't own a scuba suit I'm going to have to stick to usual swimming. |

Swam 2800metres in 45 minutes. I'm getting closer to what I use to be able to do, I'm happy! I would've swam longer but I only had a short time between classes.
Hows everyone doing? |

If you live in the US that is.. but even if you don't it's a good day to reflect on Freedom, Independence, and all that jazz. What is it you're trying to find your freedom away from by exercising? Some extra weight? A health problem? Just plain old boredom? Whatever it is you're trying to get rid of, today take a moment to think about what that is and what lengths you'll go to to improve your life.
Keep motivated and keep exercising! |
