[personal profile] raze
You know, although my series is a civil rights story, I really haven't gone out of my way to make the government a big, sinister, evil force because I tend to align that more with high fantasy rather than with real world governments, particularly OUR government. I have erred, and erred greatly.

I really never thought I'd be living in a day and age where the government was passing laws willy-nilly that violate the bodily autonomy of a huge segment of our population and turn those individuals into second class citizens. Now, now we have laws where women are being mandated to have transvaginal ultrasounds, in which women may be forced to carry a stillborn fetus to term at hazard of their own health, in which employers can deny medical insurance or fire people for using contraception and doctors can decline life-saving medical procedures and I'm thinking, "Oh, shit! I've made the US government in Raze unrealistically reasonable, compassionate, and even-handed!"

On one hand, I'm gleeful at the thought of exploring "the backlash" to the preternatural hominids rights movement in text, though it'd have to be after Vol 5, which is a "victory" novel on the legal front. I'd LOVE to see some of the modern issues overlap in the text though: for example, it is illegal in my world to infect someone with therianthropy. Can you imagine that law colliding with the moronic zygote/fetal personhood laws that are endangering women's health all over the country today? I can see all of the imprisoned pregnant therians now, man - and the irony would be that since their children would be born ferals, they wouldn't have human rights anyways! God, that really, REALLY sounds like the America I know and loathe today.

... Yeah, I should not read the news this early in the morning. It makes for too much angry, crazy me.
