How Does contemporary gay Tel-Aviv connect with the dispute area of Nagorno-Karabakh at the time of the Armenian genocide in WWI?? How does a bloody encounter between Christianity and Islam connect with "getting out of the closet"?? 4 characters, 2 stories, 1 destiny. Hi, I'm Itamar S.N, the author of the debut novel "NIV". I invite you to read my novel and ask for your review. The book is available on Amazon, other websites as paperback or e-book and bookshops around the world. I wish to know what you have to say about the connection between the stories. All the best Itamar

If you like classic literature, you may want to check out this website that my wife just found. It has downloadable electronic versions of out-of-copyright books, some of which are older than the USA & GB combined! It looks like, for most of the books, you can choose from a wide variety of download formats, including Apple and PDF versions.

As usual, I've been doing a lot of reading. Particularly lately, as we've gotten some good book swap opportunities recently.
Here is a list of what I've been reading:
Five Wishes: How answering one simple question can make your dreams come true by Gay Hendricks
The Learning to Love Yourself Workbook by Gay Hendricks
(these first two books are NOT books to just read through quickly and set aside. they should be read, and then the exercises should be done slowly, carefully, and with thoughtful deliberation. If done right, the results can be literally life changing)
Courageous Souls: Do we plan our life challenges before birth? by Robert Schwartz
(now also available under the alternate title "Your Soul's Plan?")
Common Sense for the 21st Century by Myrddin McGill
I'm pretty sure they are all available through Amazon, but if you're financially unable to buy any of these books but would still like to read them, you can go to your local library and request that they get a copy (either by buying it or through inter-library loan) so that you can check it out.

Hello, I have a question. I am interested in a lot of books but I don't think I will ever have enough time to read them. And I would read them but I would get tired eventually. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can quickly read books or something? E.g., what if I wanted to read the bible or War and Peace by Leon Tolstoy?

Can anyone recommend books about the Old West and famous figures from the Old West (Jesse James, Wild Bill, Billy the Kid, Doc Holliday, Wyatt Earp, etc.), or anything about Deadwood, South Dakota, or Tombstone, Arizona?

Allusions in Catch-22?
So Catch-22 is my favorite book, and I am such a dork that I want to know the allusions made in the book because there are a ton. So far all I have:
1. Paradise Lost - John Milton 2. Twelfth Night - Shakespeare 3. The Waste Land - T.S. Eliot 4. Locksley Hall - Tennyson 5. Hamlet - Shakespeare 6. King Lear - Shakespeare 7. The Iliad - Homer 8. The Odyssey - Homer 9. Crime and Punishment - Dostoevsky 10. Ulysses - James Joyce (I think it's not a really meaningful allusion, though) 11. The Merchant of Venice - Shakespeare 12. Moby Dick 13. The Canterbury Tales (???) 14. Washington Irving 15. Gilgamesh 16. (maybe) The Good Soldier Svejk - Jaroslav Hasek

so im not sure if anyone actually checks in with this site (the last log-in was a while ago) but i just felt like sharing... my favorite book of all time is the Catcher in the Rye. and i know that almost every teenager that reads it says that, but i mean it. it really defines part of me in some way. if holden caulfield was a real person, i would marry him. no questions asked. :)

Dear people, I am not sure about the rules of the community but I beg for understanding. If anyone happens to have the text copies of full texts of Tennessee Williams' - Glass Menagerie - Streetcar named Desire - Carousel tune (verse) - verse about wanderers and witches, in any format, please could you send it somehow to mefuselah@mail.ru For over here, in Moscow, it's appeared to be totally impossible to have it without a month's delay, and I need this all right now for a quotation translation in a TV episode. Thnx in advance.

Has anyone read Catch-22. I'm sure some of you have. I just finished it again and it's simply my favorite book of all time.
Anyway, there's a song by Phantom Planet called "Wishing Well" and I think the lyrics/music really fit with the Eternal City chapter where Yossarian is walking the streets of Rome while he's AWOL.
( What do you think?Collapse )

i feel like i've barely had time to read anything in the past month, but then i look at my list, and i feel better! i'm just going to run down the list of titles/authors, and if you want any summaries or my opinion, leave me a comment about it. truth be told, i'm too lazy to do all of 'em right at this moment!
Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky Sushi for Beginners by Marian Keyes Watermelon by Marian Keyes (i had a random thirst for chicklit?? i wish i could explain it) the Magician's Assistant the Scarlet Pimpernel of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham Wicked by Gregory Maguire Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire The Frenchwoman Murder with Puffins by Donna Andrews Tess of the d'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy
i realize i forgot some of the authors...i try to go back and look up what they were, if anyone is interested in them.

Has anyone read Sister Carrie by Theodor Dreiser?? I'm writing a major research paper on it, and i'm interested to know if anyone has written on it before, or would be willing to share some ideas for a thesis. Also, are there any resources i should scour for info? Thanks!!

I just started this, it's funny as hell. Not in a snudey atheist (I'm not sure of the author's faith or lack thereof) tone just in a cynical honest tone.
I reccomend it to anyone who likes funny books in the same vein as "The Areas of My Expertise".

I just want to say, I hate it when books in a series aren't marked.
I just accidentally started reading the third instead of the second book in a trilogy and so I was spoiled for something that is a huge deal (a murder - who is killed, and who kills them, both major characters), along with a few other things, and I'm just irritated. Is it really that hard to put Book 1/2/3 or even just 1/2/3 next to where it says the name of the trilogy?! Which, by the way, is on the book!
*rants*
*starts book 2*
