Eligibility
In this multifandom exchange, fandoms are eligible if they are ongoing or finished with the first, last or only instance released on January 1st, 2024 or after. For long-running series, only characters that were present in parts of canon released after January 1st, 2024 are eligible.
- For Movies, TV, Podcasts, Cartoons: Ongoing canons or complete canons where an episode has aired since January 1st, 2024 are eligible. Only characters present or directly discussed since January 1st, 2024 are eligible.
- For Books & Literature, Comics, Manga, Graphic Novels, Webcomics: Latest published part of canon should be released on or after Jan 1st, 2024. Only characters present or directly discussed since January 1st, 2024 are eligible.
- For Video Games, Board Games, Visual Novels: Games on or after Jan 1st, 2024 are automatically eligible. Games can be eligible with either their release or early access date, whichever makes them eligible. Only characters present or directly discussed since January 1st, 2024 are eligible.
- For Crossover pairings: Both canons should have been released on or after January 1st, 2024, and characters should have been present or directly discussed in those canons.
- For Canons Previously Not Released In English: Canons who were previously inaccessible in English, but have been made accessible since Jan 1st, 2024 may also qualify for this exchange. Please leave a comment in the evidence post.
- Anything not covered above: will be approved on a case-by-case basis: make a comment in the evidence post!
Please nominate fandoms in their most specific form, instead of the overarching fandom.
For example:
Instead of MCU, please nominate relevant ships under âAgatha All Alongâ
For DC (comics), please nominate under the relevant run.
For this exchange OW, RPF, or Creatorâs Choice of Fandom are not allowed.
What are the requirements for participating?
You must have an AO3 account and be at least 18 years old to participate. When you sign up, you are committing to creating a fanfic of 500 words or more, or one piece of original art on unlined paper, for your recipient.
Nominations
During the nominations period, you will be able to submit your nominations to the tag set. Each participant can nominate up to 10 fandoms with a maximum of 10 relationships for each fandom. Relationships and characters should be disambiguated by fandom for clarity, putting the fandom name behind the nomination. Single characters should be nominated as âSolo: Character Nameâ in the Relationships field. Worldbuilding should be nominated as âWB: Worldbuilding Elementâ. Romantic relationships should be indicated with a / and platonic ones with a &.

Sign-Ups:
You may request one fandom and up to a maximum of ten. Gifts are only guaranteed for those who have requested 3+ fandoms. There are two freeform tags used to specify medium preferences, Fic and Art. You must select at least one medium, but you can select both if you are happy to receive either art or fic. You must select at least one pairing, solo character or worldbuilding per request. You may sign up with a maximum of one well-behaved sock; please ensure that your sock is not matchable to your main account.
Please be courteous to other participants.
DNWs must be listed in the Optional Details text box to be enforcedâwe cannot enforce DNWs that are only listed in an external letter.
You may offer one fandom and up to a maximum of ten. Before the end of the sign-up period, we recommend checking to make sure that at least one person is requesting the fandom and characters or relationships you're offering. It's fine if no one is offering the fandoms you're requesting, but you should make sure that your offers are matchable to at least one person so that you have something to create.
When signups close, if no one is requesting anything that you offered, the mods will reach out to you to see if you want to add fandoms or characters to make yourself matchable. If you do not respond or do not wish to add any, your signup will be deleted.
Matching:
This exchange uses OR matching. Your assignment only needs to include one of your recipientâs fandoms and one of their relationships, solo character or worldbuilding tags. Recipients can mention additional pairings besides those in the tag set, but inclusion of these pairings will not be enforced.
If there is anyone you do not want to be matched to, please contact the mods via Dreamwidth or email recencybiasexchange@gmail.com and let us know their username and how youâd like us to handle it if they ask to pick up your pinch hit or write you a treat.
Assignments:
You must complete a story of at least 500 words OR 1 finished art piece minimum.
Your assignment should be in a requested fandom and include at least one requested relationship, character, or worldbuilding element. It should also be in one of your recipient's requested mediums (i.e., if your recipient only requested fic, you cannot fill their request with art). You only have to submit one assignment based on one of your recipient's requests, not all of them! You are not required to fill the request that you matched on if another one of their requests catches your eye.
You are not required to follow the recipientâs exact suggestions or prompts, but you must respect your recipientâs DNWs. If you aren't sure whether something would violate your recipient's DNWs, please reach out to the mods and we will contact your recipient anonymously for clarification.
Art pieces should be finished and of a quality that you would be happy to receive yourself. Scanned traditional art should be on unlined paper with a clean background.
The use of LLM or other AI tools to generate works is not allowed.
Please remain anonymous until creator reveals. Please refrain from discussing which work you created, placing your work in a personal series/collection with other, revealed works, or including other identifying information while works are anonymous. You are free to do this after creator reveals!
Treats:
Treats do not need to meet the minimum length requirements, but should feature a requested medium, fandom and relationship (unless the recipient has stated it's fine to do otherwise). Please follow the recipient's DNWs.
