About Me

My name is Richard Stubbins, and I am a Canadian – Australian amateur cyclist that loves to hit the road and gravel in search of fitness, adventure, and clarity of mind. Riding solo to train or explore, solo or with mates to push myself beyond my limits…but in the end, it’s all about the love of being on the bike, feeling free, and having a big ol’ smile on my face!

I cycle on road and gravel to destress from the daily grind, stay fit, and challenge myself. After riding downhill mount bikes in Banff, Alberta, Canada for a few years, I moved to Melbourne, Australia to start my family. After my divorce in 2014, encouraged by my brother and best friend, I bought a road bike…everything else is history!

After training with Jack Thompson (@jackultracyclist) for 10 months (2017) to head over to Taiwan and ride with my brother, I injured my leg and had to cancel the trip. After being off the bike for 2 months, I then trained for another 6 months to get my leg strong and myself back into shape. I then had to make the decision to stop training and focus on my University studies as I was in my final year. Over the summer of 2019 I completed the 7Peaks Challenge with my good mate Ronnae Henry (@ronnrider), climbing 7 of the Victorian High Countries biggest peaks. Ronnae and I have also ridden in the Hells 500 Ol’ Dirty and Bright Brewery’s 5Zero gravel rides over the 2019 winter season.

In November of 2019 I have signed on with Santini Australia as my official cycling apparel brand. My first Santini Australia event will be riding in the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Peoples Ride on 2 February 2020.

To finish off 2019, I rode the 10th anniversary of the Rapha Festive 500. The challenge; 500km, 8 days. Designed with the idea that people get the chance to feel what it’s like to be a pro cyclist. I completed the challenge by day 6 in 4 rides with a total of 508.7km. By biggest week ever by far, including 2 of my biggest rides ever. My first 150+km, as well as my first 200km.

In May 2020, I will be riding some roads and ‘groads’ with my good mate Scott Devery (@chefscottcycles). Flying into Ballina, we will then travel around the Ballina Peninsula for 5 days in search of gravel adventures before finishing our ride in Byron Bay.

I almost went to photography school in my 20’s, but I instead decided that playing in a band and being a snowboard/mountain bike bum was a better idea! LOL! My love of photography has now been paired with my love of cycling, being showcased through my main social feed @richardstubbinscycles on Instagram.

I love riding bikes, shooting photos, and having a laugh! Check out my instagram posts and stories, say hi, and let me know if my photos can help your business, or, lets get out for ride!
