Hi..
Is this group dead?
I've been searching around the internet for Richmond knitting groups, and most appear to have died out in 2005.

Is anyone in this group interested in meeting up for SnB group? :)

The Yarn Lounge (I think): it just opened in cary town. Quite possibly the least cozy yarn store I've ever been in. How the hell do you make a room full of fuzzy things not cozy? Furthermore, horrible selection. More than half was Rowan, and everything sported carytown prices. Needle selection was spotty at best; hardly any DPNs. But, they're just starting, so maybe they'll improve with time?

This weekend I went to Unraveled for the first time, and I must say, I wasn't too terribly impressed. Not a whole lot of selection, mostly the expensive name-brand stuff you can find pretty much anywhere: Noro, Collinette, etc. However, they had Manos Del Urugay for 12.75 a hank, which is the cheepest I've seen it, I think. And, their logo is very cute. So! Thoughts?

Oh crap, this didn't post last night.

I can't make it to the group this week! I have to work tonight for some lame ass reason (pointless four hour shift). But you know, you all should get together and stuff anyway. I promise, no one bites!

Alas, I will not be able to come to the knitting group tomorrow, for the jerks at work who were all "oh, well, we don't schedule shifts that are under 5 hours," scheduled me even though I'm only available four hours. wtf. Soooo...I won't be there but the rest of you should go and get a decent group started!!

Caitlin, could you loan me a set of #3 DPN's? I think you've got them from the Broadstreet mittens. I need to do the shell. Thanks. See you tonight!

Are people meeting up again this wednesday at the commons for knitting-fun? I'll actually come this time, I promise... I'll even bring my snazzy recycled-silk yarn I'm madly in love with, and let everyone pet it.

Okay so now that it's been established that we're free nights during the week, how about we do something on Wednesday night? Sevenish? I'm not sure what a good place to meet around campus would be... the commons and the library can be really noisy at times, and busy too, but I'm thinking those are the easiest meeting places right now. So...yeah, commons? Seven? Tomorrow night?

anlethyst you better come. I'll ride bikes to campus with you!

I need to order a skein or two of yarn from Elann (I got some den-m-nit without any idea what I was going to do with it, and now I've figured out what I want to make, but I need a couple hundred more yards), and I was wondering if anyone else needed yarn from them, and wanted to split shipping. I'll probably order it tomorrow or friday...

Hi! I just joined, so I thought I'd introduce myself :) I'm Mira and although I'm from Boston, I go to school at VCU where I'm a theater major (I recognized some of the members from that community :D) and I love to knit (been knitting since I was 5) so I thought I'd join this community. I have no idea where the good yarn stores etc are in Richmond (I'll be moving back there in a couple of weeks, but I don't have a car or a bike, so I'm either on foot or bus to get places). Current projects are: 3 baby hats (1 for a friend (having a boy), 1 for my boyfriend's sister (not sure of gender) and one for boyfriend's sister-in-law (also unsure). After that, I'm going to be making a sweater for one of my roommates (i make her a sweater and she doesn't turn the heat up insanely high type of deal, also doubling as her christmas present).

Just a reminder: I'm still the moderator! I just switched main journals back to my old one, and I'll probably delete the other one in time. Just so you're not confused!

Now, back to this tank top that is probably 3 inches and driving me INSANE.

I've been having knitting-block lately, it's very annoying... Probably because all of my WIPs are somewhat boring scarves. I have plans for grander things, though... Like a giant, round, lacy shawlthing for which I've been slowly collecting lots of pretty mohair. I've got plans to make giant circs for it, too (although they involve things like drills and several different sized dowels and plastic tubing, so I don't know how well it'll work out). I've also been scheming up a couple felted bags to make from ripped-out thrift-store sweaters, and a top or two with yarn from my stash. I guess I'll start on all that once I'm done with classes (two more weeks!) and a few of my other weird knitting-related projects...(Besides the afore-mentioned boring scarves, I'm raising about 700 silkworms, and occasionally trying to learn how to use a drop-spindle.)

We should have some sort of knitting-get-together some time. I know there was something like that through that meetup thing, but there were never enough people signed up for it.

Welcome!

Feel free to ask questions, post pictures, whatever you like, really. Also, any suggestions on making this better are welcome as well because I know it's very....plain...as of yet.
