I'd been wanting to go back to icon-making for a while now, but have just never been able to get up a lot of enthusiasm for it. Well, here's a tentative return to making icons--BPAL icons, anyway! All icons are 40x100, so you can have the maximum 10 images in your BPAL.org forum signature if you want (that will be 400px wide). It's meant to all be lined up nice and pretty-like!
• If you are using these on LJ, please credit scentwhims or angelamaria • You don't need to credit if you're using on BPAL.org, although it is appreciated :) • Commenting not required for taking, but greatly appreciated ♥
I do take requests! Just comment here with up to 10 blends you wish me to make and I will get around to them. You're welcome to come back and request again once I've finished your first/current request! ♥
I'm not usually a crafty person. The one who is good at crafts with us is langging, and for me, well, anything with glue is bound to be messy. But I'd started customizing my BPAL box a bit and I had to keep going.
The first thing is, I lined the inside the wooden box with thick black felt, using wood glue. SUCCESS! It feels so luxurious inside, I feel like I want to line every box I have with felt :x I left it overnight, and then next day, I started working with polypropylene sheets to make dividers.
EXTREME FAIL. They were SO FLIMSY. They were fugly. I gave up.
So I was sitting there and wondering what to do now? when on a whim, I decided to try and see if the popsicle sticks would work as dividers, as they seemed to be the same width. I had a lot of them because I bought some for the wood glue...but of course you can't buy "some", you buy "a ton".
So I just mashed a couple together and glued them all and let them dry for a good bit.
AND IT WAS A SUCCESS.
I'm happy with them not squares. Squares will be a lot more organized, but also taking up a lot more space, and there's just no good way to get them all lined up easily. The problem is the imps do sometimes fall over to the side, but that's good that I didn't make each section too deep, so I can just fish them out with a finger.
So, yay!
Initially I thought I should paint them black, but that makes it difficult to see them, and it just didn't feel right. A while ago I realized I should just varnish them--not as dark as the box itself, but maybe midway. I'll have to go out and buy varnish though.
Wheee. I've finally been able to organize my BPAL box, although it's still shockingly messy with all of the bubble wrap! I don't have a lot of bottles to fill the temporary divider boxes, but I didn't want them to be sliding around.
I finished updating my spreadsheet with all the samples I have and those that are incoming. I'm properly mind-boggled; I have 90 scents already (about two-thirds still on the way). I've skin-tested a good number of the samples I have, and two of them I'm certain I want to re-test before concluding that it's not for me. There are not enough days to do so! :O
All in all, though--I am loving this new hobby/collection. I think my Gemini quicksilveriness has been long without a new, interesting, intriguing hobby, and so has attached to BPAL like a little girl and her lollipop.
So far, I've discovered two notes that may possibly be amplifying on me without me wanting them to: orris and coconut. I don't know which, exactly, but as I have no real idea what orris smells like, I can't really tell. My nose is still quite properly a noob. I don't like the smell, though. It's alright sometimes, especially when it's faint--but it can be very heady and strong, even though it's soft and could have been pleasant.
I am pretty happy to really and truly say that the scents I like on myself are light and airy scents, almost whimsical and almost ethereal, and either floral, fruity, and/or foody. I do mean to try almost anything once, though, as I've come across a couple of pleasant surprises, and I wouldn't be surprised to find a scent that reads "heavy" but is wonderful for me.
Time to take my shower--and maybe try a scent or two for bed ;)
Okay, I think I might be slightly screwed here. -_- LJ only allows 1200 tags. That's CRAZY. How am I supposed to tag all the notes in a scent? Sigh. Maybe I should have gone with my first ever original idea: collect all my scent reviews for a whole week, and post it in Whimsical.nu/girl.
Still itching to throw my hands up and just make myself a small script to handle all these problems. Ponder ponder.
(In other news: I think coconut is amping for me. Or something.)
(Aaaand riiiight. I just spammed myself with all these new entries. Curse you LJ, for not allowing backdated comm entries!)
It arrived! Thanks a lot for the frimps and the candy, I always look forward to the note. :D Also, happy (belated) birthday! I hope you had a great day.<3
