Why, yes, there actually is a slash fandom for this movie. Their fiction archive is here.
I haven't quite managed to make credits yet, but the following people's names would be in bold letters if I had been able to:
slashchick is responsible for the original vid idea. A long long time ago, when she got into JP3 slash, she mentioned that this song would be good for Alan/Billy, and well, the idea stuck with me.
lysimache told me that it should be Alan's POV rather than Billy's, and she was right. She also told me that there should be lots of pteranodons, and she was right about that too.
versaphile graciously provided hosting for the vid, answered many more Stupid Technical Questions than anyone ought to have to put up with, and taught me how to do dissolves. Fades fades fades!
Lyrics:
So lately, been wondering Who will be there to take my place When I'm gone you'll need love To light the shadows on your face If a great wave shall fall and fall upon us all Then between the sand and stone Could you make it on your own
If I could, then I would I'll go wherever you will go Way up high or down low I'll go wherever you will go
And maybe, I'll find out A way to make it back someday To watch you, to guide you Through the darkest of your days If a great wave shall fall and fall upon us all Then I hope there's someone out there who Can bring me back to you
If I could, then I would I'll go wherever you will go Way up high or down low I'll go wherever you will go
Run away with my heart Run away with my hope Run away with my love
I know now, just quite how My life and love might still go on In your heart, in your mind I'll stay with you for all of time
If I could, then I would I'll go wherever you will go Way up high or down low I'll go wherever you will go
If I could turn back time I'll go wherever you will go If I could make you mine I'll go wherever you will go I'll go wherever you will go
Bits of the vid that I am really really happy with:
The aspect ratio. This may seem like a minor thing to you, but it took me two hours to figure out how to make it not be squishy.
There are a few bits that matched up to the music nicely, like the brushing of the sand at the very first clip, and Billy dropping out of the harness on "fall."
I really really like the end of the second verse, and the second chorus, with the parachute and the jumping and everything -- I think it came together really nicely, and I was smiling at the scene before that as they shook hands through the fence. Aww.
There are a couple of instances where a clip cuts, and the clip that follows it is totally different, but has things happening at the same angle. One is the guy's hand on the check, cutting to Billy's hand on the toothbrush, but at the same angle as the pen that was in the guy's hand. Another is Billy falling and the chute opening above him, cutting to the pteranodon swooping down at him from the same angle.
Things that could use some improvement:
It's kinda sappy. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but, y'know...
Hey, maybe next time I could learn how to do credits, eh?
I could also stand to synch movements up with the song some more.
The last two choruses aren't as carefully planned as the rest of the song. Well, they're *planned,* because I planned this out beforehand, but at that point I was running out of clips to use, you know?
The second chorus, my favorite one, cuts early -- it cuts to the eggs on the word "go." If I hadn't cut it there, there would have been a split-second shot of Alan in the water angsting as Billy is carried off, and that was really really distracting, so I cut early. I had wanted to include some shot of Alan angsting in the water there, but I couldn't bring myself to cut any of the pteranodon-y goodness.
It's chronologically out of order, which I didn't like doing because it's confusing, but it didn't fit any other way. For those who care, the sequence of these events in the movie is as follows: Alan gives a speech at that podium, then goes to the dig and meets up with Billy. Billy accepts the invitation for Alan to meet these people to talk about going to the island, and they talk it over at a bar/restaurant -- the guy writes them a check. Then comes the plane flight and crashing stuff. They run into some dinosaurs, and they see some raptor eggs, and Alan gets separated from the group. They find each other again, though, and that's when they shake hands through the fence. Alan then discovers that Billy had stolen raptor eggs, which is why they were being chased by so many dinosaurs, and he confronts him on it, and says a whole lot of mean and nasty things to him (this is the bridge of the song). Then they're trying to cross a bridge in the mist, and a boy gets taken up by pteranodons. Billy fastens the parachute and leaps off and rescues the boy, but the chute gets caught and he hits the cliff wall. He lets himself fall out of the harness, and is attacked and picked up out of the water by the pteranodons. Alan gets very very angsty, because he thinks Billy's dead, and he didn't mean to say those nasty things -- this is the "I hope there's someone out there" line. Alan and other people spend the rest of the movie running like hell from various dinosaurs. They are rescued somehow by the military, and Alan enters the copter to find Billy lying there, all in bandages. They have a very cute reunion -- Billy tells Alan that he saved his hat for him. And the movie ends with that shot of pteranodons.
