Nothing much to report ... did my first advocacy at an Arbitration, which is a formal hearing with cross-examination of witnesses, etc. I lost the case, but it was a great experience!
Still living in the same place in Melbourne, although we'd like to move out to a place with a courtyard or yard. Maybe around the end of the year.
I don't post much, but I login regularly to LJ to read my friends' posts.
Hope you're all well! |

I took a day off from work on Monday to show my sister and her hubby around town. She hasn't really been to Melbourne, so I took her to all the shopping districts: Harbourtown, Bridge Road Richmond, and Chapel Street. We also went for coffee and cake in Ackland Street. Was a great day but I was a bit stuffed at the end of it.
Work is travelling along well. I only have 24 cases (peak level is 30), but my diary is filling up. I have to go to Colac next week, which is in the middle of nowhere! Poor me!
Hope you're all well and happy! |

In recent years, family relations have been a bit strained. However, my sister is visiting Melboune in coming weeks, and I'll be spending a day of shopping with her.
Should be fun!
Work is travelling well with a good victory last week!
That is all! Hope everyone is well! *smoochies* :D |

Even though I spend most of my time on Facebook these days, I still visit LJ every week to see what's happening. Not much is happening in my life at the moment: just work, rest and play. Thankfully, there'll be more rest and play at Xmas, when the office shuts its doors until after New Years.
I just wanted to jump on and wish everyone a very happy christmas and festive New Year ahead.
For those who have stuck with LJ, thank you :o) |

Hi everyone! *frantic wave* I have been busy updating my communications, having bought an Android tablet and an phone - I'm very technological :-) I'm also now very poor :o(
I have a major problem that I will have to start dealing with *sigh*
Work has been good:-) ... as u probably already know, I work for a trade union and our membership has just voted for industrial action. Needless to say, I support the unions and their members in the Qantas dispute.
That is all for now xxx |

Facebook has been a nasty distraction of late - sorry about that.
Well, my third anniversary in Melbourne passed the other week with mild fanfare at the pub. That means that I have been in my current job as an Industrial Advocate/Industrial Officer for three years, too. The first year was a bit of a rocky period at work, having had a relapse with my mental illness ... but things have improved and I'm running full-steam-ahead :o)
Not much else to report. The boss had a good word put in about me by a client she met at a meeting, and relayed that onto me ... it was nice to get some positive feedback - it says I'm doing a good job.
My flatmate and I are thinking of moving out of the place we're currently living in. The rent went up 17% at the beginning of the year and, although we didn't object to it because of the previous 2 years being on the same rent, we came to resent the sudden increase. If we don't have frozen rent at the end of the year when the lease expires (and a phone line), we have vowed to move out. Can't complain about the area we live in though.
I have been reading everyone's entries even though I don't add much to my journal.
My flatmate just had 17 days away in Port Douglas and had a wonderful time on the beaches and in the township. I missed him very much, and was pleased when he came home finally :o) It's funny how absence really does make the heart grow fonder :o)
All is well - no complaints here - hope all is good for you, too! :D |

| Dental pains ... |

I consider myself very lucky to live in Australia where I can see a doctor for free and get subsidised medicine. Paying $33.90 for a medicine that would ordinarily cost me $225 a pop is a blessing.
However, a toothache last week brought home a problem with our health system: dentistry.
It is time it was socialised along with medical practitioners.
I went to seven dentists last week and no one would see me unless I paid the full amount for a consultation upfront that day. That's outrageous, and quite frankly, needs to be dealt with by the Government.
I think most Australians would not mind paying a higher medicare levy each tax year to have dentistry included in the system. It would certainly make sure people are cared for health-wise and would contain the outrageous costs associated with a consultation.
The Labor Party is down in the polls at the moment. If they were to announce that dentistry would be socialised after the next election, they would be a winning lead. But, they're too gutless and controlled too much by the factional Right.
Now I know why I lean to the Greens in elections - the Greens have socialised dental care on their election platform.
This year, I will have to fork over thousands of dollars toward having my teeth fixed properly. Do I regret not taking out private health insurance? No. I don't. I believe in socialised medicine, and I believe that a health system based on the have and have-not system of private health insurance is a fundamental breach of social justice and collective responsibility.
