HelixVision

HelixVision

Are you no longer supporting geometric 3D?
Someone in the SteamVR support forums said Helixvision no longer supports geometric 3D reconstruction, and that only Z3D is supported unless you enable hacker mode. Is this true? Does this mean this tool no longer relies on 3D Vision?

We are exploring adding the SuperDepth3D_VR+ shader support, because it is driver independent and would allow us to support AMD GPUs as well. A lot of our contacts with users complain about performance, which is another reason to explore this path.

Being stuck with driver 452.06 is not viable long term of course, so we only have a few options. Stick with that driver and request users to run that, cancel the project altogether, possibly move to z-3D, or write our own geo-3D 3D Vision replacement.

Currently only in research/exploration phase. Anywhere you heard that we have abandoned geo-3D is incorrect, because at the moment, we don't actually know. We will always have support for current geo-3D to HelixVision, but how it looks in the future is up in the air.

However, it is entirely possible that will make the most sense for HelixVision itself: to put z-3D frontmost, and hide the complicated higher-quality version in a different mode. It's not a bad idea, and we will definitely consider it.
I really dislike z-3D. Actually that can be done for free using Reshade. You don't need to pay money for Helixvision.

The value in this is in making all 3Dvision games run in VR. That should be the focus.

Your point is well taken.

Have you tried SuperDepth3D or have bad memories of Compatibility Mode and/or Crysis 2?

The reason I ask is because I had never seen a properly done version of z-3D, and have played with SuperDepth3D recently as experiments. I have to say that I am quite surprised at how good it looks and runs.

BlueSkyDefender has done a number of really interesting tweaks on the formula, with an improved gap/halo mechanism that is quite a lot better than CM. He also has tweaks for weapons hands that typically look terrible, so that they are masked out and look good.
Helixvision (Katanga) instead of depth 3d vr companion app is a fantastic idea ! For example assassin's creed valhalla is not supported by vorpx but depth 3d supports it well, the problem were the rudimentary functions of depth 3d vr companion app .
DX12 and "3Dvision" is job for the next years, but what about the support of RTX 3000 in DX11 3Dvision ? Vorpx supports Z-3D in DX12 and G3D in DX11, and Helixvision could do this as well by using Depth3d and 3dvision, if there will be a modified NVIDIA driver for RTX 3000. Is it possible in the near future ?

We are going to add SuperDepth3D_VR+ as an option for sure, so that people who have 3000 series cards will have options for both DX11 and DX12. As long as we can get a sufficiently good SuperDepth experience, it doesn't seem bad to offer it. We can get good depth and a compelling 3D with it, which I could never get with CM. There is the haloing, and no popout effecrts, so it may not be sufficient for some people. Everyone is different, and we try set it up so people can choose what they prefer.

DX11 geo-3D replacement will not be soon. Since I'm the only one working on these things, it's on the order of a year's effort to get that working. Not impossible, but debugging and tuning takes a very long time.

We don't currently see any solution to NVidia destroying the DX11 path in 3000 series drivers. However, I still need to take one more deep dive there.
Maybe it is better to forget geo-3d for some time and develop things like "full-vr" 360 degree head tracking. A game and driver independent function to change the fov to play even third person games in "full-vr", would be a gamechanger for many games !

That's an interesting take. The Geforce Experience snapshot feature had the ability to take 360 ansel photos of supported games so you could capture gameplay and then have it shown back as a 360 image. If that was turned into a game feature that you could use to play, that would be interesting indeed, especially if it was stereoscopic.
