HelixVision

HelixVision

Non-3D mirror
Hiya,
Bought this yesterday and enjoying it - thank you
My gf often watches me play VR games using the normal mirror that appears on the desktop when I play native VR games. I also use the same mirror when I stream to twitch or YouTube. However, the helix vision version is blurry with all the blue/red 3D (insert technical term) stuff visible. Is there a way to mirror one eye to the desktop or something similar to make a viewable experience for watchers please?

Glad you are enjoying it! Some of these experiences are truly spectacular.

For the mirror- do you mean the normal game window? That will definitely be getting the anaglyph red/blue treatment as it runs. No way to avoid that at present, as it's a fundamental part of it being in 3D.

In HelixVision it's sort of an upside down VR experience, because we inject into a game that never expected to be 3D let alone VR, and bring that into the VR app which is the Katanga/mirror. So unlike a VR game, the main window is owned by the game in 2D, not in VR.

However, you can zoom up the Katanga mirror window itself, which gives the actual VR screen view. Since it's on a 2D screen, it will appear in 2D and only show the left eye for what you are seeing in VR. You can also make the window any size you want by holding Ctrl at launch to get the Unity selection dialog.

Another option might be to use the SteamVR mirror. When SteamVR is active, you can click the hamburger menu next to version, and choose Display VR View. It can show single eye or both eyes.

Those are less than ideal because of the surrounding empty space and the Twitch stream might be funny for viewers if you connect to those windows.

You can also possibly use different streaming software that can capture the buffer at a better point. If the stream can capture before the game calls Present, then it will see the same buffer that the Katanga app sees, and before it is colorized.

I'm not expert here, but it would be worth looking at OBS (https://uploadvr.com/how-to-stream-vr-games/) and maybe NVidia's streaming via ShadowPlay or whatever it got renamed this week. ShadowPlay has historically been able to stream out of 3D games without problems.

I'll take a look to see if I can somehow circumvent the colorization, but it's part of how 3D Vision works.
