Not sure if it fits your description but Derail Valley was a good alternative for me
Definitely Derail Valley, I don't have it nor did it played, but judging from all gameplay videos, I think it's the closest to this, too bad they stopped working on this game. IMO, all other train sim are too much "sims" and/or just scenarios from A to B, no "free" carrier, like this one.
Yeah. It's quite sad Train Life got forgotton by the Publisher.
Anyways.
Derail Valles is a good alternative IMO. And since there will be a Big Update coming, hopefully, this Months it is a good start toget into it
What i liked about trainlife was the concept that you take raw materials and refine them into higher tier goods. and if you dont provide those raw materials, no other production would happen. i liked the idea that you basically controlled the supplychain... sry my english aint that good.

I get what you are saying and yes that was a niche mechanic

Railroads Online is the closest thing to getting raw materials and making final product to go sell. its a simpler but more complicated game at the same time. you actually place the tracks down yourself, its not just a jump in the train and go kinda game. so it takes time to get tracks laid before you start moving anything.
Glad you guys enjoyed the concept!

well... most players did until you abandoned it. it had the chance become some sort of ets2 for trains.

Trust me when I say that I have the same feelings. I've got my own studio now; working something very different.

Looks interesting, any release date on EA or Alpha?

Also, can't say I'm a fan of your chosen Business Name lol, but each to their own =P

Development is still very early, and we're still looking for funding, so dates are far from being set. We'll be doing a big pitch spree next year with our early gameplay, and any news about how that goes will be shared on our devstreams and Twitter for sure.
I liked the whole Idea of a Freelance Company and Freelance Driver.
railroads online has a simular aproach hope they make a modern version of that 2
