I had Rubinite on my wishlist for about a year. I randomly saw the trailer on YouTube, added it to my Steam wishlist and then completely forgot about it. About a year later, I randomly checked my wishlist and noticed that the game had been out for almost two months and was even on sale.

I didn't hesitate for long, bought it and jumped into it completely blind.
What started as simple curiosity ended up becoming one of the best games I have ever played.

Story:
The story is insanely good. From beginning to end, I was never bored or confused about what was going on. Ruby is such a cute character and the motivations behind the characters were really well done.

For such a short game, they clearly put a lot of effort into the story. Even the ending was straight up cinema and made me a bit emotional.

Bosses:
The bosses in this game are fantastic Every single one feels unique, with their own mechanics, arena and moveset. You get a variety of Bosses from some with AOE attacks to straight sword fights to 1vs2.

The final boss especially is really well done. It took me around 2 hours to beat him (final final boss), but i was never frustrated or bored. Every failed attempt pushed me further and when i finally beat the boss i was exremely happy.

Artwork:
The artwork and designs are also fantastic. The bosses, characters and the world itself are all presented in 2D pixel art. It looks incredibly detailed and is at the same time extremely bloody.

The game really reminds me of a combination of Blasphemous and Nine Sols.

Combat:
As someone who had never played a boss rush game before and isn't a huge fan of Hades, I was really curious about how the combat would feel.

Turns out, the combat is clean, unique and really fun.

Besides the skill tree, where you can choose different abilities and combat styles, there is also a Charm system similar to Hollow Knight. The Charms themselves are really well thought out and give you a pretty big variety of ways to play.

Music:
The music is so good! The main theme, ending theme and especially the music during the boss fights are all amazing. After finishing the game, I immediately went to Spotify and downloaded almost the entire Rubinite Playlist.

Final Thoughts:
Rubinite is a short game. A normal playthrough takes around 6 hours, but if you want to experience everything the game has to offer with the true final ending, it takes roughly 12 hours.

In my opinion, the difficulty of the game is perfect. It is not insanely difficult but also not so easy that you can walk through blind.

After the game ends and you decide to do the real ending, there will be a little surprise waiting for you that really shows how much you've actually learned and how good you have become at the game.

If you are looking for a mix of Nine Sols combat and the artwork of Blasphemous, then i think this is pretty much the perfect game for you.

The game focuses entirely on its story, characters, art and bosses. There are no normal enemies like you would usually find in other Metroidvanias or Soulslikes. It's basically just you (Ruby), the bosses and the mechanics.

I 100% completed the game in less than two days. It became one of the best games I have played and I think it will be called one of the best boss rush/souls like games in the future.

The Game is short, but it does everything right!
5 - Stars
