First docking in Kerbin orbit

Congrats, docking Is often a relatively high difficulty task the first time (especially since you also need to rendez-vous first, also potentially tricky to newer players).

Is there a reason why you are using massive size (2.5m) for everything?
Not that there is anything wrong with it, but it seems overkill if the goal was just the docking.

I just grabbed my current standard Munar passenger lander instead of creating a pair of one offs just for docking. The rockets hold all the science instruments and room for 7 Kerbals total. I didn't have any passenger missions available but both rockets went to the Mun after docking for other contracts.

Its a 4 stage rocket. Bottom stage is liquid fuel and SRBs. It runs out of fuel and stages not long after I finish my gravity turn. 2nd stage is a triple liquid fuel with 3 engines. Circularizing the orbit around Kerbin uses that one up. In the screen shot you can see the 3rd stage and the lander. Side tanks in the 3rd stage get used up correcting inclination and reaching the Mun's SOI. Center tank has enough fuel to do a retrograde or polar Mun orbit and get to within 1000 m of the surface. I can't quite shave one tank off or I don't have enough fuel in the lander stage to get back to Kerbin without either skipping off the atmosphere or burning up. When I jettison the main part of the third stage its still about 1/4 full of fuel on a 0 degree inclination orbit.

I know its over built but I'm still compensating for my disabilities by bringing a little too much fuel while I learn the more difficult techniques.
Nice, docking can be hell. Thankfully I play with mech jeb (autopilot/pilot assist mod) which lets you auto redevous and dock. I mean I can dock without it but it saves so much time and frustration.
Congratulations on your first docking!

Invoking Gemini 8 is bad juju, though. Haha!
I wish I could do this. Its too hard and I don't wanna install any mods that make it easier. Ill keep trying though.

All the information that I looked up left out one important detail. Click on your ship's docking port, select control from here, then click on the target docking port and select set as target.

Mike Aben's video nails it.

If you can get a level 3 pilot or a level 3 probe core you can set nav ball alignment of both crafts docking ports to each other and simply do a short forward burn.
YAY another person learning how to "push the marble" HAHA
