but what was it and is there a way to bring it back to the .fgd? ;)

P.S. to be clear, i know what MIDI is... im asking about the entity itself

It was removed because the entity no longer exists. You can't just add it back to the FGD and expect it to work.

Given the fading support for native MIDI playback this entity is obsolete. Nobody noticed in 10 years until now. :)
That is a bit sad, midis were small and useful for some quick music.
FModEx is capable of playing MIDI files (e.g. through ambient_generic or ambient_music), though it depends on the sound fonts available from the host system. On Windows that'll usually be Microsoft's version of a common Roland soft wavetable but on Linux you might not have anything at all.

TIL svencoop's ambient_generics support .mid ... perhaps cos ive never seen one map that used those! tracker music module files - heaps, but not good ol midi! speaking of, can you name one map that has some midi bops in it? curious! thanks :D
ambient_generic would still suck for this becuase midis dont play on linux i think
That would be because most Linux distributions don't provide a MIDI soundfont as standard. You'd need to provide your own, or we would need to supply a royalty free one with the game.

We could probably offer the FluidR3_GM[sailfishos-chum.github.io] soundfont as it's MIT licensed. (Or you can obtain this yourself.) This seems to sound similar to Microsoft's Roland soundfont.
