Multiplayer PVE review in my opinion
ACE COMBAT 8 Multiplayer Review: Plenty of Modes, but Where Is the Depth?

ACE COMBAT 8 has plenty of multiplayer modes on paper, but the overall experience feels strangely incomplete. The problem isn't a lack of content. It's that the modes don't seem to deliver a consistently satisfying gameplay loop, especially for players who prefer PvE.

Co-Op Assault: Short Matches, Small Rewards

Co-Op Assault feels like it's designed around quick, repetitive sessions. Matches end before the experience has much time to develop, and the rewards often feel too small for the time invested.

The progression system makes this worse. You grind matches to earn rewards, then grind again to unlock or upgrade aircraft, only to return to the same repetitive missions. It feels like grinding layered on top of more grinding.

Instead of encouraging players to enjoy the missions, the system risks turning gameplay into a checklist. The short match structure also makes the experience feel more focused on rapid repetition than on the satisfaction of completing a meaningful operation.

Co-Op Warfare: Long Matches, Questionable Balance

Co-Op Warfare has the opposite problem. Matches can run long, but player balance can make that time feel frustrating.

When one team has a significant advantage, the match can become an uphill battle with little room for a comeback. A long match is only enjoyable when the extra time creates opportunities for strategy, teamwork, and dramatic reversals.

Otherwise, it just means spending more time in an unbalanced game.

Scramble: What Is Its Purpose?

Scramble is another mode that leaves me wondering what its unique selling point is.

A multiplayer mode should have a clear identity that makes players want to choose it over the alternatives. Whether it's intense interception missions, survival challenges, or unusual combat restrictions, it needs something memorable.

If a mode doesn't offer a distinct gameplay experience, its existence alone doesn't add meaningful variety.

Boss Battles: Fun, but the Timing Feels Off

The boss mode is one of the more enjoyable ideas because fighting a massive superweapon is exactly the kind of spectacle that fits ACE COMBAT.

However, the pacing and time constraints can undermine the experience. Boss encounters should give players enough time to learn attack patterns, coordinate with teammates, adapt to different phases, and feel the satisfaction of finally taking down the target.

The fight should be the main event, not a race against the clock to earn rewards.

Team Deathmatch: At Least It Knows What It Wants to Be

Team Deathmatch is straightforward. You fight other players, work with your teammates, and try to win.

It doesn't need an elaborate progression loop to justify its existence. Its purpose is clear, and that clarity is part of its appeal.

However, a solid PvP mode doesn't solve the underlying problems for players who primarily want a compelling PvE experience.

The Biggest Problem: PvE Feels Hollow

This is where ACE COMBAT 8 multiplayer disappoints me the most.

I don't want more modes simply for the sake of having more modes. I want missions that feel like actual military operations.

Give us 15–30-minute cooperative missions with multiple phases, evolving objectives, unexpected developments, and meaningful consequences for our decisions.

Imagine starting by disabling enemy radar installations, then intercepting reinforcements, defending an allied fleet, and finally attacking a superweapon before withdrawing from the combat zone.

The mission should evolve as it progresses. If the team fails to destroy a radar installation, enemy reinforcements could arrive earlier. If the fleet takes too much damage, the final phase could become more difficult. Players should have to adapt rather than simply destroy one wave of targets after another.

Most importantly, teamwork should matter more than competing for kills. Rewards should reflect mission completion, supporting teammates, and accomplishing optional objectives—not just who destroys the most enemies.

What ACE COMBAT 8 Needs

I would rather have fewer, better-designed modes than a large selection of modes that feel underdeveloped.

- Long-form Co-op Operations: Missions lasting 15–30 minutes, with multiple phases and objectives that change as the battle unfolds.
- Meaningful Mission Progression: Earlier decisions should affect later stages, creating memorable victories and failures.
- Fair and Consistent Rewards: Players should earn rewards appropriate to the time invested without being forced into endless grinding.
- Better Matchmaking and Balance: Especially in longer PvPvE matches, where a team imbalance can ruin the entire experience.
- Replayability Through Variety: Different enemy deployments, weather conditions, optional objectives, and tactical choices should make missions worth replaying.

The goal should be to make players return because they enjoy the combat, not because they need another pile of currency to unlock the next aircraft.

Final Verdict

ACE COMBAT 8 multiplayer doesn't necessarily need more content. It needs a stronger sense of purpose.

Co-Op Assault is too short and offers too little for the grind. Co-Op Warfare can drag on when the balance is poor. Scramble struggles to establish a clear identity. Boss battles are entertaining but can feel constrained by their pacing. Team Deathmatch, meanwhile, is straightforward but doesn't satisfy players looking for deeper PvE gameplay.

What I want is a cooperative experience that captures the scale and intensity of an ACE COMBAT campaign while offering the unpredictability of online play.

Give us long missions, evolving battlefields, meaningful teamwork, tactical decisions, and rewards that respect our time.

I don't want to grind through a collection of multiplayer modes. I want to feel like an ace pilot participating in a war.

That is the difference between a multiplayer game that gives players things to do and one that gives them experiences worth remembering.

Underdeveloped. Thats the key word. I strongly believe the game was behind schedule and the multiplayer mode right now is just a shell of what it supposed to be.
Considering the grind for Aces Online progression, the money the mode wants you to spend, I think the devs seriously overvalue what's presented.

The single player campaign is great but Aces Online has issues.

I didn't even get into the technical issues people are having with this mode.
It all just feels tacked on. They probably already had those co-op missions and warfare modes but then spent the rest of the dev cycle rigging the gatcha system and lobby area. It makes me wonder if they'd be a more interesting multiplayer without it.

This is why I don't think they'll add any new missions until the next "season."
Agree. It's cleary, Multiplayer mode developed by different team from Story Mode. and honestly, I don't see a way how anyone feedback can reach Project Aces or the team response to Online Mode.
Whoever designed the Online mode should be fired.

The grind is terrible, the two permanent game modes are terrible, there is no balance at all (it´s not just that it is terrible, it LITERALLY ISN´T THERE AT ALL), the map and game rotations are too slow, etc.

If you can´t make competitive PvP, just do campaign coop, for God´s sake. People are finding cooperative PvE better than PvP these days anyway.
