Jetstream Sam VR mission 002 is a NIGHTMARE
This is my hardest rage in a LOOOONG time.
What kind of BS is this? Fighting knockdown-based enemies on a small platform with a risk of instant death is frustruating beyond belief.
Especially the RPG guys and butt-stupid birds.

Games were supposed to be fun, why this mission isn't so?!

Any hints on how to deal with birds apart from using air attacks and PRAYING TO ALL THE GODS that one of them won't shoot your butt with a rocket or head-butt you into oblivion?

Welp, there we go.
I've beaten it.
What a f***ng ride...
Parrying the birds proven to be efficient. And it would be, IF THERE WASN'T 2 CYBORGS BEATING YOUR ASS AND BIRDS ALWAYS ATTACK FROM BEHIND OR FROM THE SIDE.

This was frustruating beyond and acceptable levels.

Back to the story.
If this mission is a nightmare to you, then VR Mission 004 will make you throw your headset out the window.

Which one was it again? Big arena where enemies keep coming wave after wave?
3 gorillaz, 2 spiders, 1 grad?

If that's the one - to be honest it wasn't as bad. 1st attempt went poorly but 2nd was a winner (or 3rd?)

I just can't handle knockdowns, they annoy me. And since in VR002 knockdown = death
then its especially infuriating.
Nothing like RPG projectile right in your back to send you flying over the edge while you was already fighting 2 very annoying enemies
Just want to let you know that even now in 2020 the VR missions for Jet Stream Sam are still a nightmare, but I finally made it through the second VR mission. I definitely got a second wind from reading this thread, so thanks for that!

Currently 2022, and I am also quite upset at this ridiculous level. I wish it were not here ):
I know this is 5 years late but imma just describe how i, a first time player to this DLC, managed to beat this utter ♥♥♥♥♥. (This does require some luck, especially in the beginning. Also this was on Normal and Hard, no idea if it works on higher difficulties):

So, I begin by focusing on the left RPG guy, ignore the sword dude, i'll explain why. Dodge the first RPG rounds and run right up to the left RPG guy, charge your heavy attack fully and, with some luck, i managed to both hit him and the sword dude that was behind me off the map. That's the most luck based part.
Now focus on dodging RPGs and avoiding the Hammer guy, don't engage him until the end. The two RPG dudes can both be knocked off with the charged attack before the Hammer guy catches you.
Once they're gone, the Birds appear. Jump like a maniac, charge up your heavy attack and insta-kill the birds in the air, whilst avoiding the Hammer dude. You might even catch 2 Birds at once.
Finally, after all this crap is dead, the Hammer guy can be easily killed with charged attacks, but don't get careless, or you will have to repeat this all over again, probably several times thx to all the luck required.

So yeah, that's how i did it on both Normal and Hard. Does this work on higher difficulties? Probably not, but i'm gonna find out soon, after i'm done with the main campaign again on Very Hard.

Extra Note:
(Is this beatable, Yes. Is it even remotely good design? No, because not only is almost every hit an insta-kill, but this is also one of if not the only place in the entire game where you can actually fall off the map and die, making it unnecessary as all hell. There is nothing to gain or learn, it's pointless.)

I personally really enjoy the VR missions. I'll let you know that they don't 'scale' with difficulty but rather are set to Hard on Easy, Normal, and Hard, and are set to Revengeance on Very Hard and Revengeance difficulties. Typically, if you want to S-rank them, going for the No Kills bonus is easier than the No Damage bonus.

How I do VR 02 is as follows:
First, dodge the rockets and do a running charge attack to the RPG cyborg on the left to knock him off. Then run across to where the new RPG cyborg is spawning and do the same. Then run/jump to dodge the 'sword' cyborg (they all can do rockets and swords but only one starts with his sword out) and the rocket that is probably coming at you and head back across the arena to running-charge-attack the last RPG cyborg off the level. note that none of these count as kills, so they are compatible with a no-kill S rank.

Now you have one sword/RPG cyborg and one hammer one. I target the sword one and do the launch attack, which is Sam's overall best non-charge attack. You do this by tapping
--> --> Heavy Attack
Those cyborgs are particularly vulnerable to that attack. Once you hit him, you can probably do a charge attack as he recovers. The goal is to make any limb glow blue, and once it is, you can enter Blade Mode and chop it off. At this point, any time spent away from him will cause him to disappear in a few seconds, counting as a non-kill and spawning the birds.

However, what i like to do here is to take out the hammer borg. Easiest way is to taunt him, then hit him with a charged attack. You can zandatsu after this, but if you're going for an S rank, you probably want to chop off a limb and run away so he can disappear.

Then you can deal with the birds (sliders) however. I usually just stay in the middle and jump and attack. Sometimes I taunt, sometimes I don't. If you are feeling confident, you can jump and do blade mode, then charge your strong attack whilst aimed at a bird's fuel cells (they'll be highlighted), and Sam will actually rush across the air and zandatsu the bird. It's not easy to do, but sometimes the situation is just right for it.
It's quite funny to me that people keep stumbling on this 5 year old thread because of the common hate of that particular mission.

At this point i barely even remember it... Except for birds. The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ birds are burned into my mind forever.
My best tip is that using ninja run heavy (not charged) will do just enough knockback to send the rpg guys off the map.
