Anyway to rebind counter/block?
Having block and counter bound to your main attack button is one of the dumbest control setups i have seen in a while. Anyway to bind it to a different button? Maybe a mod of some kind?

I don't understand why you would want to. System works fine. And the in-game tutorial explains to you how it works. You need to practise more.

Binding the counter/block button to your main attack button is the worst possible binding i would choose, literally anything else would be better. If you screw up you're stuck in a attack that i didn't want to do.

Believe me i know exactly how it works but it's just plain asinine especially considering how integral to the gameplay it is. I gave the console version 4 hours of play then quit. I was hoping the pc version would give more control options.

If there is no way to change at least the button then this game isn't worth my time. No need to belittle me more.

If you don't like the design decision, then that's fine, but the way parrying works can be compared to counterattacking into the enemy attack.
Timing is important, as is the direction of your parry. As such, the stick+light attack controls work fine. The parry only works when an attack is being telegraphed, and as long as your timing is not completely awful, you won't get stuck in an unwanted attack.
You can cancel any attack (exception being a few Heavy attacks like Stormbringer) with a Parry or a Dodge, both of which are mapped to the Light Attack button. They wanted to have all your attack options on one button and it, honestly, worked out perfectly. It's just not easy for new players or fans of other action games to get used to.
Why is the thing with the camera?
It allows you to keep attacking safely without having to worry about cheap attacks messing your perfect score. Plus some bosses will sudden charge at you, and all you need to do whenever you attack is throw forward as well at the same time.

As matter of fact having a separate block button would make things more difficult. I have practically never used a standard attack without moving towards my enemy at the same time, it became a habit.

How exactly? It doesn't change anything except having a annoying binding that makes you more likely to make mistakes with. There is zero added benfit to the way it works currently.

Honestly the absolute worst thing about this system is when you already moving in a direction you have to STOP to recenter your controls then throw the stick in the direction of the attack and then press a button at the same time that is bound to your main attack. It unnecessary gimmick that just makes the game frustrating and unintuitive to control. It as well delays your reaction time and thrashs your controller because you may have to spam it if you dont time it perfectly the first time because you end up attacking instead.

No it doesn't at all... perfectly happy with dark souls having different buttons for block, pary and counter and attack. Or having controls that are excellent with no gimmiks like ninja gaiden black and no blocking.
Mate, just attack and tilt forward a bit in the direction of your target 100% of the time whenever you throw a strike. attack and don't worry about getting hit at all.
Don't see the problem here

As much as I hate to use this phrase, but it is appropriate for this. Maybe you should try git gud

Did you forget how much slower Dark Souls is in terms of combat.

This has nothing to do with skill, it's just a unnecessary annoyance and a gimmick. I'm actually not hating the mechanics of the game but the actual controls.

You can say that but this game is much relaxed when it comes to reflexes and timing needed. Compare the parry window to this game vs dark souls. Its massive in this game even god of war has less of a parry window.
Do you even parry? lol
Big difference from standard "block" parry to a perfect parry.

Duh. I know the diffrence.
Then you should know the window for perfect parry isn't as big in this game compared to Dark souls, which even extends the parry window even further with target shield.

The game may call a standard parry as such, but it's just a block.
Got similar issue, boss in blade wolf dlc, he has a few attacks you cant manually dodge
parry system and camera just gives me a headache
Gotta love how not one person here answered the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ question, having a similar issue with the dodge, X+A is awful
