Space Hulk Ascension (Classic)

any notable differences between this and space hulk (classic)?
Just curious, been enjoying this one and not sure if the other is worth picking up.

Voice lines are the same. The original one also have voices reading mission log. Which in my opinion is the only better part,

Regarding to battle system, the original one doesn't have item/attribute/skill system, weapon jamming and shooting is completely decided by dice rolls as on table (such as roll 6 to kill). And gene-stealer entry points are also more difficult to block.

So there is huge randomness during the play and your terminators die very often.

For chapters, it got blood angels and space wolves.

I think overall it proved the logic of tabletop games do not translate well into a video game. Because on tabletop we play with our friend, the randomness and losing is part of the fun. It's just a way of personal interaction.

But in video game when we play against computer, randomness and losing usually brings frustration instead of fun.
Ditto to the above. Basically, the original classic is based off the 2 edition ruleset? not sure? googling there are 4 edition board games, not sure on difference?

The real issue is, people complained about the dice rolls in the video game, it can get very frustrating, if you lose too many SM. And even in the board game version, SM are in for a tough ride. Not sure on stats, but the odds of winning really isn't in your favour. (unless that changes in the later rules? Don't have the board games. So can only speak from what I read.

But I rate Ascension over the original. If you don't have it, don't bother with it, as its a very frustrating experience.
Space Hulk is based on the 3rd edition of the Board Game. I have all four editions, but 3 and 4 are basically the same.

Ascension adds RPG elements, equipment unlocking as you level up, picking custom gear for your squad. Regular Space Hulk has none of that. If you want the Board Game experience, then regular SH is the way to go. But Ascension is a much better game in my opinion, at least as a single player experience.
I wasn't sure which version, I read that 3e and 4e are about the same. Edit, from googling, the main difference seems mostly to the physical board game, with thicker tiles for 4E and some other enhances. But nothing major, after that.

But yes, Ascension is far more enjoyable.
been watching some Space Hulk board game videos, it certainly seems more fun that way then on the computer. Tactics (different dev team) did try and allow you to play the GS faction. But that also has issues as well.

Some missions seems very lop sided with the GS faction. you really need to know where the spawns are if you play the SM. then on some maps, the amount of GS spawns are increased past a certain point. I did try the original space hulk video game. Can't say I really enjoyed it much. Overall, best to avoid both space hulk and tactics. And keep to this game. more fun, and far more enjoyable.
Regular Space hulk Classic is more faithful to the boardgame. This is more like board game + some RPG elements.

Faithful yes, but doesn't make it better. As the board game is just best off playing with friends, and switching sides. Which you can't do in the video games. (apart from tactics, which was done by another dev team and another take on the game)
So if you don't care about boardgame nostalgia, this is a better "game"?

I have the "classic" Space Hulk" and I did get bored and frustrated sooner than expected. Feels like a perfect Steam Deck game.
This is a far better game. Weapon overheating is done differently, also your terminators level. You unlock different weapons. And there are a lot of different space hulks. Also with the new release, all DLC is now included. So more chapters.

Overall, this is far better. then the original classic game.
