Crashing Mega Thread
hey friends,

we're trying to indentify commonality amongst crashing issues to get the details over to the studio. but we need your help and some details.

  • platform
  • username (EA ID - even if you're on Steam or console, you have an EA ID on the EA account your Steam or console platform are linked to)
  • where/when are you crashing? (during the EA Anticheat screen - the little coverart box with the loading line at the bottom, in a specific mission, during menu transitions, etc.)
  • system details - the easiest way is to generate a DXDiag. this faq has info on how to generate one, and make sure you attach it to your post so we can review it. if the file is too big to attach, please use PasteBin https://pastebin.com/ and share the link in your post.
  • please also run a network test and provide your network speeds. a great site to do this is https://speedtest.net.if you're on PC, as a reminder, these are the minimum and recommended specs to play skate.we do have someworkarounds that may help, but these are not guaranteed to fix the issue but definitely some troubleshooting to help isolate where the crashes are occurring.
official workarounds/troubleshooting:
  • Ensure drivers are updated (reinstall them using DDU)
  • Ensure Windows is updated.
  • Do not undervolt or change the clock speed of your graphics card. (Revert to default).
  • Ensure that files are not corrupted. Verifying the integrity of the game files through your game launcher.
  • For EA app, go to your library --> click on the 3 dots of skate. --> Repair
  • For Steam, go to your library --> right-click on skate.--> Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.
  • PC-related issues: Troubleshooting Guide
  • Connectivity issues: Connectivity Guide
  • Ensure that the VPN is disabled and check that the EA App is not in offline mode.
our community has also come up with some workarounds/troubleshooting to help.

community workarounds/troubleshooting:
  • Disable cross-play as soon as you get into the game.
  • Open the EA app and sign in first before opening Skate on Steam.
  • Reinstalling anti-cheat manually.
  • Go to "Steam\steamapps\common\Skate__Installer\EAAntiCheat" and run the file.
  • Disable Steam Overlay, disable upscaling and the drop graphics to Low preset (set FPS to 60). Guide is here[/url)
  • Restart your device in Clean Boot  mode, then try launching again
  • Make sure you're defaulting to your High-Performance GPU.
  • Run the System File Checker tool[support.microsoft.com].
  • Try putting game into windowed or borderless windowed.
  • Launch the game from Steam, and immediately thereafter open a tab of your preferred web browser while the game loads in the background. After waiting a few moments in the browser, switch back to the game, and it should then run smoothly.
thanks so much for the information you can provide - and if any of the above workarounds help, please let us know.

also disabling dlss makes the crash go away for me. tested on a similiar system with rtx 2070. with dlss crash after 5-7 seconds without no crash at all.
The game keeps crashing to desktop right after it starts — it stays on a black screen during the loading screen and then crashes. please save me

After i click play, the game wont start up and i tried literally everything, please help me or im cooked
yeah I can't even launch the game after reinstalling it.
I still get the grey screen when starting the game.
Funny this about this: I only get this, when my PC is connected to my TV (3840x2160), but not when the PC is connected to my monitor (3440x1440). Sadly, I mostly play on my TV, so still no Skate for me.
Do not play on Ultra, even if your pc can handle it. The settings don't stay when rebooting the game - something with the water effect, the textures (maybe from dlss/fsr or antialiasing, or something- whatever causes the textures to shimmer), the post processing and/or even the textures themselves don't seem to be the proper ones for Ultra or any of them. Sometimes the roads turn into a complete solid and black texture. Please fix these issues, as I should be able to play on 4k/2k and Ultra settings without constant game crashes, if i choose to do so, etc. Even the dynamic lighting isn't properly applying.

I constantly have to reload the game when I change from Ultra to high to fix the texture issues and 30fps issue, as well. The water textures fixes itself and I can tell with the white outline, when I reload to high back to Ultra, also the water transparency. The shimmering also goes away, as well as some lights come on. Not sure if that's dynamic or static, but dynamic is on... but I have to this constantly. If I do it right away, the games seems to crash more frequently. If I skate and wait a few minutes, about 10-20, the game only some time crashes. Please, fix these issues. Please, EA!

Also, why no realistic design, like all your other sports game? Why does skate have to look like a child's game - with adhd?

Also, has anyone tried using an autoexec file? I tried some random things, not to familiar - from a different game. Seems to make some changes. Maybe similar to a user.cfg file. I'm not sure. Just a suggestion, as a temporary fix.
When quality texture is set to ultra ( got a good pc that could handle it with ease ) the game crashes ( also my girl her game does with a newer RTX ). also when diving into water the splaches and rendering will cause a crash. seems to be a overload of loading or rendering for the game?

I've had to restart my computer every time I attempt to play this game. It freezes/crashes randomly during gameplay, nothing saves, rewards don't show up, it's not working. Fix the game before making more rainbow outfits.

so basically ther's the EA loading thing at the start then it opens a black window and then crash (on steam at least)
When I try to post the DxDiag info, I get this message on here: "Sorry, some kind of error has occurred: Comments must be less than 18000 characters in length."

I will attempt to post in the EA forum, or I will just post in small increments on here.
Genuinely tried everything, still crashes after I start to move
i cant even get to the main menu, it freezes before i can do anything

Same. Haven't been able to play since Season 1 started. It's been 3 weeks, and I still crash as soon as I start to move-no matter what I do to fix it. So disappointed. Debating whether or not to uninstall and just go back to Session.
This was a fix for me -when you click on your Steam Library under skate and write in general -windowed -dx12 Then the game started in window mode - since i have no grey screen, when i start the game
Sorry my Englisch is not so good.
